Lump in mouth??? I'm SO worried!!

haha "when his poop was staring at you"
    that's hysterical.
Let us know how it all went! i wonder what "it" (the lump) is... I'd have had the biopsy too... way worth the peace of mind.
Don't feel bad... Oliver ran into the back with the lady for his first hip surgery and the second one weeks later!! Didn't even look back at me either time. My other dog, has never had anything bad happen at the vet and she cowers under a chair, go figure...

crossing our fingers and paws for Slick!

    Christine...
How is Slick?  Is he home from the vet?

Waiting on pins and needles in CA.... How is Slick doing??

We're back... It's sort of neutral news at this point. It, unfortunately, was NOT a piece of toy :( It WAS some sort of tumor. It was not positioned to be a blocked gland (salivary and lymph are much farther back, closer to the neck). I saw it - it looked like a pink lima bean, very smooth surface with one little vein feeding it. I'm having it biopsied, although she reassured me that a malignancy at his age is highly unlikely. She didn't even hazzard a guess as to what it was, she was stumped. Bleh. So, now I have to wait for the results from the pathologist. He is totally fine, he's not even groggy - trying to chew on bones despite the stitches in his mouth.

I wish all I had was a funny story to report! Thanks for all the support - again, helping me through this!

Well its out, so that is that!   Of course its not over until its over, but I have always heard that when these growths and tumors are taking out, that the vet can pretty much tell if its a problem or not, so that with his young age,,I'd just not even think about it again until you find out.  Which makes me wonder, how long willl it take for them to get the report back?
Meanwhile, glad that Slick is feeling fine and happy!!!   GOOD NEWS!

WooHoo good news,  Slick is home and doing okay!!  I'm sure it is nothing but a small benign tumor, just one of those things that gives us something to worry about.  Sending positive thoughts Slick's way.

Wow.  Glad you got it out - especially if it's some kind of tumor.  [&o]

Glad Slick is safe at home and bumpless!  Good decision to remove the mass!

Yay Slick is home! I'm glad you decided to remove it too.
Let us know what the results are of the test on it.

Figures a lab would try and chew with stitches in his mouth... Slick's loog a like Oliver tries to run and jump with his hips broken in 6 places :)

My Vet said that the results from the pathologist are meant to be back in 5-10 days, but it's usually closer to 2 weeks.

I have to say - he's oblivious to the stitches and is VERY unhappy with me for putting all of his bones/chew toys up.  Between witholding breakfast yesterday and taking his toys away...  When I put the last bone up - he layed down with his head on his paws and let out a HUGE sigh (while giving me a dirty look).  [:(]

QUESTION!   Does anyone have an opinion on feeding raw while his mouth is healing?  The medallions are the perfect consistency as he is not meant to do any real crunching or chewing.   However, will I be exposing the surgery site to bacteria
    unnecessarily?   What do y'all think?

Christine, I'm so happy to hear that Slick is home and doing well.  Waiting for pathology reports sucks!!!  "His poop staring at you" lol, at least you haven't lost your great sense of humor.  Best wishes and healing vibes sent your way.

So, I got a message from the Vet telling me that the pathology report came back and that the lump is actually Lymphatic Tissue... She is in surgery for the whole of today and I coincidentally have an appt. tonight to have his sutures checked. So.. I won't be able to get any additional information from her until 6PM tonight.

What should I ask her??? Lymphatic Tissue - what does that mean? All I can think is Lymphoma.  But if it were, she wouldn't have left such a "casual" message, right? right? [sm=uhoh.gif]

Christine, I found a definition of it. Hope it helps.

Lymphatic tissue: A part of the body's immune system that helps protect it from bacteria and other foreign entities.
Lymphatic tissue is rich in lymphocytes (and accessory cells such as macrophages and reticular cells). The lymphatic tissue includes the lymph nodes, spleen, tonsils, adenoids and the thymus (an organ in the chest that is particularly large during infancy).
A tissue in medicine is not like a piece of tissue paper. It is a broad term that is applied to any group of cells that perform specific functions. A tissue in medicine need not form a layer. Thus, the bone marrow is also a tissue.
