flea control accidentally applied on fur

last time i applied the k-9 advantix to jake (a couple weeks ago)  i'm pretty sure most, and definately sure at least some, of it actually got onto his fur instead of his skin :/     ive seen one flea, and hes been scratching and biting a lot and causing sores on his neck and butt areas.  should i apply another tube?

We've done that, too.  We use Frontline Plus and, supposedly, it's supposed to be applied on the skin, but it says that it gets absorbed into the skin from the hair, or something like that.  You should be o.k. as long as most of it gets on the skin. We forgot to give her the Frontline the beginning of July (first time we've ever forgotten) and we'd been noticing she was itching, scratching and saw some fleas. How stupid are we - it took us a couple weeks to realize that we forgot. So, we put it on and within 2 days, we haven't seen any more fleas.  Poor dog has to suffer for our mistakes.  Oh well - - - good luck.

Use garlic/brewers yeast tabs for your pets, you will never have another problem with fleas ect!!!Fleas and pests HATE garlic!!Chemicals are very bad for our pets, wears down their organs. This combo is dirt cheap too. I live here in Florida, BUG LAND, and it works beautifully for my 'kids'. Found on or offline.I PROMISE you will love this stuff!!

Linda, I understand that you really believe in this product, however, this is the FIFTH time that I've seen this same post and it's bordering on spam.  why don't you start a thread and tell us about your dogs?

im in the same boat as you, it seems everytime i apply advantix on my dog it all seeps up into the fur anyway, and while it does kill off and repel most of the fleas, i have found a little flea dirt on my dog already after 2 weeks. i wouldnt reapply right away though, as it is a pesticide and it cant be good for them to have too much. however, k-9 advantix is a once a month treatment (unlike frontline which is every 3 months), so if its been a month or pretty close i would say go ahead and reapply.

also, i feel compelled to say something about the garlic. i have heard of many uses for this in dogs, flea repellent, wormer, heart supplement. but i personally would NEVER give this root vegetable to my dog as it is one of those controversial foods which is said to be toxic by one person and a great rememdy by another. i cant tell anyone how to take care of their pet, but i will say when it comes to my dog i would rather play it on the safe side.

Since when is frontline every THREE months?  It's a monthly preventative.

I actually use 2-3 garlic cloves in a 20 qt pot of food and most of the better foods have some garlic in them.    I use NOTHING for fleas since we absolutely don't need anything.  They are feed excellent quality foods and I can't help but thinking that this keeps the immune system healthy.

Kind of on subject -- how can I tell if Dweezil's scratching is just doggie scratching as opposed to fleas?  Also, what about the ... bottom biting/licking?  (though she's always done that)  PS.  she is on Advantix

And Glenda, I'm feeding her Wellness.  I just looked on the website for the one I'm feeding her (the super 5 mix lamb) and there isn't any garlic that I can see.  I just took her off Nutro Max.  Should I be adding garlic?  I thought garlic was one of those no-no foods?

Garlic is one of those things like spinach.  It's fine as long as not in excess.  I can't advise you to add garlic, but I will say that I believe that's one of the key factors in my dogs having no fleas.

if it is fleas you should find little black balls under your fingernails after scratching your dog, it is called flea dirt as it just looks like bits of black dirt, although it is actually flea excrement. most abundant spots i tend to find this on my dog is behind the ears, around the tail and on his belly.

im not really sure, i only used it once recently when i couldnt get to my regular vet to get advantix, all they had was frontline at the local vets office. i only purchased one tube to get by on and the office had taped a little note on it that said to reapply in 3 months .  if it is only once a month application that would explain why we had fleas by the end of the 3 months.

Dweezil has little black spots on her tummy, but she always has ... and though I've scratched and scratched, none of them come off.  The vet told me, once, that it's something like puppy eczema.  Have you heard of that?  I don't think Dweezil has fleas as of right now ... I've checked other parts of her skin, and have seen no flea dirt.  Guess she's just an itchy puppy!  thanks!

From what I understand if you want Frontline (plus) to work on ticks, it needs to be applied every month, but supposedly for fleas it can work UP TO 3 months, depending on how many live in your area, and the likelyhood of reinfestation.
