    New foster dog

Last weekend I picked up a beautiful little 6.5 mo. old true hairless female who has some serious skin issues stemming from an idiot breeder who let her get a severe sunburn.  Her back is healing up nicely, but what I'm most worried about are her ears.  The tips were severely burned and it also appears subsequently severely fly bitten.  The ears are quite crispy on the edges and one is even missing a few notches.

I've been keeping the ears slathered up in an oil based antibiotic cream (Bactitracin) in an effort to save the ear tips.  She also gets lotioned up twice daily with Lubriderm unscented for sensitive skin to which I've added pure tea tree oil.  Does anyone have any experience with severely burned/fly bitten ears.  Is there anything else I can do to help keep the ears moisturized while they heal?  Here's pics of the her ears.

Poor baby; I don't have any ideas on what would help. I hope someone comes along soon with the information you need, perhaps Callie or Jennie.

Believe it or not a glucosamine/chondrotin supplement will help stimulate deep tissue skin replenishment - I've used it with tremendous results on dogs with awful skin issues (maggotty sores and damage from really bad mange, for instance).

I prefer liquid supplements to powders or pills - I think they seem to be more effective for this purpose.

I have a rescue crested - she's a very hairy hairless and she's been a delight!  My "other" breed is Border collies and it's been really fun as she is almost the anti-Border collie.  I just can't imagine the idiocy that would let such a thing happen to such a pretty little thing. She looks like she actually has naturally nice skin in spite of the damage - amazing!

    Here's my princess:

Poor baby.  Her previous owners must have truly been idiots, in every sense of the word. [:@] That's good to know about glucosamne w/chondroitin being good for skin issues.  I've never heard that before.

Can you break open a few Vit E caps and apply to the ears???  That will keep it moisturized and should help heal it!

Thanks Brookcove...I, too, would never have thought of g/c supplement as I thought it was more for joints.  Her ears are looking better, but not as good as I'd like.  I assume the liquid is something I can pick up at a healthfood store, huh?

The skin on Cassie's back is healing up very nicely.  She's been getting bathed every other day in Keratolux  and between it, the cephalosporin (sp?) abx & the lotion w/tea tree oil her back looks great.  She'll always be scarred, but the sores are almost all gone now.  Even her tail is greatly improved, but the ears just aren't healing up as fast. They're no longer red & oozy sore looking, but still not where they should be.

And let me give you a HUGE thank you for rescuing the HHL...she's a doll.  What's her name?  I have a pic here somewhere of a CC herding llamas...it's his favorite pasttime.

Fuzzy...yes the idiot breeder who turned her over to rescue is beyond words.  What upsets me the most is she's already replaced her with another HL crestie...most likely from the same mill Cassie came from (in Oregon).  The puff boy she has has got to be one of the worst examples of the breed I've ever seen, he has an incorrect coat, an overbite and Lord only knows what else.  But hey...he has testicles so he must be okay to use for breeding...right?[:@][:@]
