NO too ear plucking?

Ear plucking for me depends completely on the breed of dog and the amount and thickness of the hair in the ears. Poodles really need to have their ear hair plucked. It should be done at least every 6 weeks. I am a groomer and tell my clients that. If they go too long and the hair is really over grown and the ears are really dirty I pluck some out but tell them that the dog needs vet attemtion. I have a poodle of my own and he has a very good and thick coat so he needs his ears done regularly. He did have one ear infection once and the vet said now that he has had one it will become chronic. That was over 2 years ago and the vet is amazed that the dog has not had another one. I told him it is because I really used the medication and I clean his ears often. Vets see so many bad ears because the owners do not follow through and take care of the ears. We had a lady bring in her medication she wanted us to use after we cleaned her dogs ears and the medication was epired for 2 years! I also have a powderpuff chinese crested and I never pluck her ears, I do clean them with  a little ear cleaner but that is all.

It is different for each dog. Some dogs do fine with no plucking. Some absolutly need it. Depends on allergies and other factors. When you do pluck, only do a few hairs and just do a bit, then more another day. Over plucking hurts most breeds. Poodles have less of a problem. That hair comes out easily.

I pluck Trudy's ears once in a while. The important thing is to keep them clean and dry. I use Epi Otic cleanser from the vet each week after her bath.

You need to smell and look at the color of the ears daily also. I look at Trudy's eyes and ears each day.
