None of my bichons have tear stains, nor do they have "pink feet" any more.
Though each dog is going to be individual, the basic guidelines are:
1. grain free food and treats. That means NO corn, wheat, barley, oatmeal, rye. NO bread, pasta.
2. use stainless steel bowls for food and water - no plastic! No ceramic etc, either.
3. try filtered water ( like a Brita pitcher) and if that doesn't work after 3 weeks, then buy distilled water for your dog.
4. watch the protein levels in the food, if your dog nibbles feet and has "pink feet." Get a food that is about 30% protein, not the 40% which many of the high quality foods are.
The food I use: Taste of the Wild, the High Prairie formula. (bison and venison). My dogs won't eat the Pacific Stream formula, which has smoked salmon in it. They don't like smoked flavors in any foods.
The treats I use: Plato's Farmers Market Salmon and Vegetables, and Chicken and Vegetables.

I also get Provenance Fish and Potato treats, and of course, carrots, green beans and raw sliced sweet potato and apple.
Be very cautious using things like Show Eyes, Angels Eyes, etc. They contain low doses of antiobiotics. Over time, you may find issues with antibiotics, should your dog need them for other reasons.
