    Tear Stain?

How do you remove tear stain from a white dog?  What product in the pet store does actually works?

    Hi Jen,
First of all, welcome to I-dog. Glad to have you here!

I have a shih tzu (see her under my name), Daisy, who has/had bad tearstains before. When I changed her food and got her on some good probiotics and yeast/fungal tinictures, her tearstains cleared up very well.  What food is he/she eating? It definitely makes a difference.

Now Daisy has to have surgery to clear her tear-ducts. That is the reason that she is tearing so badly, her tears are blocked, and the tears can't go anywhere except down the face.
Honestly, I have tried everything in the store for tear-stains and let me tell you nothing works. You have to work from the inside out.

I used to use a product called Show Eyes on the cockers.  I got it from Dr's Foster and Smith, but I bet dog.com will have a similar product.

She eats Natural Balance Duck & Potato but I'm currently testing out different types of can food mix with home cooked food together.  Since I don't know where to start, I brought Four Paws Crystal eye but it didn't really do it's stuff.  Very hard to wipe the tear stain off because JJ won't stay still as well.  Still trying to figure out if it's the food or something else.  Thanks for the replies!

One of my Shih Tzu's used to have them, although not real bad. It went away about 2 months after I changed her food.

There is a product called Eye Envy that a lot of people swear by:

I use a self rinse to wash the face and put powder on the hair to keep it dry.  I also use Kelco Plum White for bathtime and it works great.  I wouldn't think it would be your food...you have your dog on a good food.  Genetics play a big role in tearing too.  Vinnie (in my avatar) is naturally white.

my zoe never had any trouble  with staining until this summer.  3 things happened at the same time. 1)spayed,,2) new food(eagle  pack ) 3) antibiotics  for infection in her vulva.  vet said the staining was not a side effect of the antibiotics.  Changed  food again to NB Sweet  Potato/fish, and sometimes the venison.  Doesn't seem tobe quite as bad, but sure would like to get rid of it!

I have used eye envy with good results. Have to keep up on it and use alot of the powder. Helps the fur repel the tears. Anyway, my two cents. [sm=2cents.gif]
