    Clean Ears

How clean do their ears need to be?  I wipe our Wes's ears with a damp paper towel/ear wipe from the pet store, but I can't seem to get rid of all the gunk...  It is not that there is so much, rather that there is just a little, and it is all in the very small crevices that I can't quite totally clean out...  Is this a problem?  Is there a tool I should use?  (His ears don't seem to be bothering him at all, I just want to make sure I am doing a good enough job with them)...

If you are very, very careful you can use cotton tips, but don't just on the crevasses, and if your dog won't sit still - don't do it.  I use baby wipes (pre moistened) and they are very effective.  I also just recently bought some pre moistened pads from Drs. Foster and Smith and use them on the dog and the cat - and they are great.

Some animals don't require much ear cleaning.  My dog isn't bad, but my Persian cat is a dirt magnet - have to clean her ears several times per week and she doesn't have any ear problems - just dirt on the folds.
