My 2 year old American Bulldog rescue keeps getting hiccups?!

Hey everyone!! Firstly, I would like to say there are some wonderful pet owner and handler's on this site looking out for one another and I think that's just a wonderful thing!!

So why I've posted here is I've just rescued a 2 year old Pure Bred American Bulldog. He was Abused, neglected, starved and locked in a crate for a year in a half before resting easy on his futon mattress!!

All of a sudden he's been getting bursts of hiccups. They haven't been very long, nor do they look painful.. So is this just from me stuffing him full cause he was poorly emaciated when he came to us? Or just excitement? Maybe an underline condition?

It happens about 4-7 times a day ALWAYS after feedings. And never last long. The longest lasting 12 seconds, and the shortest lasting about 5.

Any and all help is really appreciated thank you!!

    Hi,

Thanks for the kind words and it's so great that you adopted a dog. I have done rescue for many years so I'd love to help you any way I can. This happens to my Rottie sometimes, does he eat fast? Also, I have worked with American Bulldogs they really do well with training and lots of exercise that will help a lot with any issues he may be having. How are things going? What is his name?

Hi, thanks for the advice and the reply!! Things are going quite well. I have quite a bit experience as well when in comes to training/rehabilitating/and dog behavior especially the Bully breeds that's what attracted me to him in the first place. And YES!! He does eat really fast he's a very big, very hungry American Bulldog haha, and is name is Emmett. And again thank you so much!!

Great sounds like you have a good handle on things. I have fostered and rehabbed dogs for about 15 years now, Rotties, Pitties, Danes and Corsos. In my experience with starved dogs they will eventually learn that food will always be there. You may want to get a slow feed food bowl or I sometimes had to hand feed them slowly and I would give small meals throughout the day if you can. Eventually he'll figure it out. Love the name! Post some more pics when you can and please keep in touch.

That's awesome!! My rescue friends and I actually say if there were more advocates, and just flat out more dog people in general the world would be a better place!!

And I know what you mean, I've rehabilitated all kinds of breeds from Great Danes, Mastiffs, American Bulldog's, Doberman's, Rottweiller's, American Pit Bulls, Bull-Weilliers, Huskies, you name it. If a dog is suffering in a state of mind or in a abusive/neglectful home, you betcha that dog is coming home!!

And thank you!! Emmett is doing great, when we got him he barely knew sit and now in a week knows sit, lay down, eyes, paw, and restraint on food and we're not done yet. He's just the sweetest boy and we have no idea how anyone could ever treat him like this. That's him in my picture.
