    Rash/ sores on chin

    Can someone please help?

I noticed my puppy Odin has these sore, pimple looking things all around his mouth. He is only 9 months old and has had perfect health since he came to us. We haven't changed his diet as of late and he is a inside and outside dog

Can someone help me identify what they could be?

ewww  contact allergy!!   Can I ask where abouts you live??  That looks like a contact allergy -- and knowing where you are may help me to tell you what is likely irritating.

Are his paws or something else  sore?  Dogs get contact allergies just like we do -- for us Poison Ivy is a contact allergen.  You can get it from direct contact OR you can get it by touching something that has the oil from the contact allergen on it.

For dogs things like poison oak, night blooming jasmine, in the South "St. Augustine Sod" which is all over anywhere they have long periods of no rain  (from Florida to Arizona)  - but there are two little tiny weeds in the root system of S A Sod -- dayflower and doveweed -- that help hold water in the root system, but those two weeds are horrible contact allergens for dogs.   Also wandering jew - which is all over the US and sometimes is an inside (hanging plant) and sometimes is a common garden thing -- either used as a filler in garden beds or a weed that creeps and clings to fences/walls.  There are many many varieties of wandering jew.

But a contact allergen can be something the dog  rests his chin on (like the floor or even his paws) but the oil from the allergen could have been left by human boots/shoes that had walked thru  something with the oil on it.

Are those "pimples" or are they papules?  Pimples are "pustules" (ie they have pus inside) but papules are bumps with nothing "inside".

What are you using for bowls?  If you are using plastic stop.  Either use glass or metal  so you can get any oily residue off there

Rather than go on and on -- tell me where you are so we can narrow this down..

I live in Australia, Western Australia

I thought it could be an allergic reaction. He doesnt seem to be itching it or scratching it much at all, although he wont let me take a good look at it.

Theres some during the day when it is more inflamed and discoloured.

His paws are fine, from what i have seen the only other part that could be affected is one of his ears that some times will be very red and look quite irritated.

They are pimples from what i can tell, iv booked an appointment at the vet for this week,

As for his bowls, his food bowl is metal but his water bowl is plastic so i think ill change it out and see if that helps any.

    Thankyou for the reply too!

Is there something i can do in the mean time to help him?

    Hello,

Our German Shepherds get almost the exact same thing.

Our company has been in the medical field for 7 years; we have just introduced our product into the pet market. It is an all natural, anti biotic free, broad spectrum approach to skin cleansing and treatment. We have conducted a successful head to head trial on yeast infections in the ear for dogs. I share because it can really help.

    Gee I'm sorry -- I didn't get a notification of this answer.

If it is a contact allergy -- which looks really likely -- it's likely something on the carpets/flooring/bedding -- a contact allergen spreads vicously easy.  You happen to step on a leaf of some plant that is a contact allergen for him (and there are tons of them -- from any one of 100 varieties of wandering jew, to night blooming jasmine, and beyond) then you walk across your own carpet at home, the dog lies down and touches the carpet and **contact** is made.  If the skin is already sore then it's going to be even more likely to irritate.  So areas of the body which aren't irritated may be less apt to get sore.

Bathe with a soap and a bit of grease cutter (even a little baking soda in the water will do this).  Then make up a spray bottle of water, aloe vera juice, and a few drops of tea tree oil (it is marvelous for healing such things - but you don't want him to lick a lot of it off or it can make them a big sick to the tummy)

But just plain aloe vera applied topically is super helpful -- a contact allergy is, essentially, a 'burn' more than anything else.  The aloe is a great topoical anti-inflammatory.
