    Meet Moose

The Pyrenees Rescue were so wonderful after Shaggy died and told us we could another pyr of our choice when we were ready. Then a couple of days later we got a call saying there was a great boy up for adoption, a 7 year old full pyr with the badger markings. A little over 4 years ago he was caught stealing food from the salad bar in one of the cafes along the River Walk in downtown San Antonio. It stretches along both sides of the river l for a long way and is lined with eateries, shops, rock gardens, etc. Tour boats travel up and down the river. It has cement sides, so no dirt.

When caught he was taken to the Saint .Bernard Rescue, who recognized at once he was a "badger Great Pyrenees, not a Saint and turned him over the pyr rescue. He was adopted by the this wonderful couple. and lived there happy for 4 years. But they are moving back home to Minnesota toopen a bed and breakfast and didn't think having such a large dog there would be a good idea. so they called the rescue and told them to find a good home for him. We took him.

They were in tears at having to give him up, but I promised to keep in touch with how he is doing and send pictues and I do. He has made himself right at home here and boy does he learn fast. It took no time for him to learn the word EAT and when I say it, he trots to his food pan in the kitchen. at night when we have dessert (usually ice cream) we leave just a tiny tad in our bowls for him. He had never had it before and the first time was not sure of it, but now he cleans every pin size speck out of th our bowls. He can be sleeping on the patio or back in bedroom and we will just tap the bottom of the bowls with spoon and here he comes trotting for his "dessert. Jerry walked him two mornings while waiting for time for breakfast (have to take thyroid pills as soon as we get up and wait at least 30 mi9nutes before coffee and breakfast. Come the 3rd morning, as soon as Moose saw Jerry was dressed, he headed for the front door and has been like that ever since.

He loves attention and loves the grandkids. He is 105 pounds but only eats about 3 1/2 to 4 cups of food a day (Taste of the Wild plus a little home made turkey stew). My one granddaughter said if it were not for the light brown sot above his tail, and his long tail, from the back he would look like a polar bear ambling along. He is rather a wide track in the rear. Don't know if the picture will work or not. I tried to change my avatar byt nothing happened.

Sandra, the photo appears in your second post -- Moose is gorgeous!  He has fur that I bet feels so thick and soft when you run your fingers through it.  And he loves ice cream -- a guy after my own heart!

I'm sure it's a comfort to the people who had to give him up to know they'll be able to get updates from you.  It sounds like if he was confused or sad about losing the family he'd had for 4 years, he's moved on and has settled very happily into your family.  Congratulations!!
