    too late to be neutered?

My dog is 2 years old and I have yet to have him neutered.. my main concern is for his health, but also everyone keeps telling me to have him neutered because he's too rowdy for the groomers and get's too excited when people visit. I'm trying to make up my mind whether I'm going to have it done or not and I do feel bad for waiting so long. Have any of you all waited this long, or longer? and if you have were there any negative symptoms because you waited too long?

Hi I would get him neutered for sure! It's not too late, if he has develope issues you can fix them. The thing is when a dog isn't neutered they can get very frustrated and they have so much energy, they seem to be in a constant state of crazy. It will help settle him down. What kind of dog do you have? Sometimes depending on the breed they can get aggresive I'm a firm believer in getting them fixed. Please keep me posted.

thanks for the advice, i def need to make an appointment, he's a golden doodle, he's just a big teddy bear, super sweet dog, just can be a little over rowdy at times.

Very nice, my parents have a Doodle, Casey he's alot of fun and tons of energy. Do you do any kind of training? That can help ALOT! They are so smart and when they get to use their brain things just get better. When you combain brain energy and physical energy you get one tired dog and a tired dog is a good dog. Keep me posted!

I should do a lot more training then I do, he's very smart , he catches on really fast to  the training I have done. He really is a great dog, the only thing I'll say about doodles is that their fur takes a lot of time to keep under control and grows so fast.

In honesty, it wasn't bad at all to leave him intact until he was fully grown.  A lot of people will tell you it is better for them to be fully grown when neutered.

You might even look into your local community college -- sometimes they offer classes to people in the community for general things ranging from how to use computer software, to things from dog training to calligraphy.  The more training you do that better!

Yup go ahead and get him neutered however don't expect it to suddenly change his behavior.

I know a few goldendoodles and they are all very rambunctious.

You will still have to work on his manners

And yes it seems especially with larger dogs leaving the spay/neuter until 1- 2yrs old is recommended for a variety of health reasons.

wow i didn't realize that  it's sometimes recommended to wait until they're a little older to have them neutered.. defiantly makes me feel a little better about waiting.. i'm going to have it done asap.

The literature on spay/neuter is all over the place and frequently is contradictory.  I had Rags neutered at 9 yrs.  Behavioral changes were due to age, not body chemistry.  The pup I will be getting may be worth using for breeding, but I won't know for sure until he is grown  and working for a living.  That may take 2 yrs.  I like to wait until the dogs are through growing, as early spay/neuter  can effect  long bone development.  Or not, depending on who you read

Every doodle I've met has been a fun dog with lots of energy, neutered or not.  Just nice dogs.

Intact males aren't constantly frustrated or  in a constant state of crazy.  I've known many intact males that are perfectly well behaved because they were trained. :)  As Karen, said, you may not see much change in behavior if you choose to neuter.  Training will be of much more help in the long run.  If you aren't sure you can prevent your dog from impregnating an intact female, get him neutered.

yeah at first we were thinking about breeding too, we got him from my boyfriends dad's dog who had puppies, but now i know were defiantly not going down that road., so i'm just going to have it done.

I know what you're saying about behavior changing w/ age, he actually used to have "accidents" when he got excited and I thought that it was because he hadn't been neutered (or that's what people were telling me) but it's stopped with age (thank goodness)...

Once i was told by a groomer at petsmart to have him neutered and bring him back more.. or don't bring him back at all.. because the girl that was grooming him couldn't handle him, it hurt pretty bad hearing someone say that about my awesome dog, he's just big and jumpy, I know if she wasn't handling him right he would try to get away and move a lot, but they were pretty much blaming it on the fact that he hasn't been neutered, but considering advice from others, that's not the case.

I hope you enjoy your new dog? what breed are you getting?

yeah i've really have to work on the training more than i have been, i'll be the first to admit that I need to spend more time on that.. he's so smart, he catches on so fast.. a lot faster than my yorkie poo, who is smart but doesn't want to listen lol
