Which color?

    Which color?

I'm going to dye Emma. I'm not exactly sure of the logistics of it, yet, but she'll be one color, to her mask. Her head and face will be natural. I'm thinking something in a crayola shade, LOL. I'll use Manic Panic, or cake dye to color her, and wear gloves. It should be fun, to look at, anyways, LOL. It's really just an experiment to see how it goes. Anyways, what color would YOU like to see Emma?

awww poor baby!  I wouldn't do it, for fear of ruining her nice white coat.  But, if you are intent on doing it, research what the chemicals involved can do.  Then, pick something meaningful.  Like maybe green for St. Patty's, maybe red and blue for 4th of July, or red  for Val. day.  In other words, I wouldn't do anything right now and if you still want to do it come July, do it festive for the holiday.

Nice, white coat? LOL Nice and coat don't go in a sentence near each other, where Emma is concerned. Her coat is completely wrong, for the breed, and I keep it shaved to almost nothing:) The dyed portion could easily be shaved off within a couple of weeks. I already know about the dyes and how to use them (I wouldn't just randomly throw chemicals on the girl!), but I'm trying to decide which color I want. When I get an idea of what color I want, I'll look at the different forms and methods to see which way will acheive the color best.

Doesn't matter, at the moment, though, b/c she's got a lovely demodex spot on her chest. I won't be coloring her til that's taken care of.....

I think Petsilk has doggie dye. Dont know if they still carry it, but I use to dye Pinky's tail pink w/it.

Here's something you can do if you want a temporary color that will wash out, just to see how she looks.  You can buy childrens non toxic chalk (the big sidewalk ones work best.). You then put the chalk stick in warm water to soften it.  Then you just "paint" it on the dog.  Use a soft bristle brush to spread the color as it dries. It is very safe.  Blow pens are great too, but you have to have very strong lungs! lol

LOL, I'd use blow pens to do a small section, but the whole dog? I'd huff and puff and huff and puff and pass out, LOL. I know about chalk, but I'd really rather not have her chalky. Food dyes (as in made to go in food) and vegetable based semi permanent hair colors are perfectly safe.

This is something I am very interested in, but have no experience with. Do you recommend any websites for learning about it?

I have a book called "Why Paint Cats" and it is amazing. They were all done with non-toxic colors so it seems to be quite safe. Obviously the cats didn't mind too much as the details were amazing and couldn't have been done on a cat that was fighting against it.

I honestly don't know any websites that tell much about it. I've also seen Why Paint Cats and just LOVE it! If you can find a grooming show anywhere in your area, there will be a Poodle coloring and sculting competition. VERY cool stuff! I only know what I've learned from talking to people who've done it. I just think it'll be a lot of fun:) I'd like to have a Standard Poodle some day, who I will either keep in a Continental clip, or keep colored and sculpted into all sorts of fun things.

Thanks. I'll keep checking around. I too would love a standard poodle someday as they are such nice mellow dogs and so much fun to groom. I only take in rescued dogs so it isn't very often to cross paths with standard poodles.

Right now I have my house and hands full anyway.

They really are incredibly cool dogs, but very high maintenance. There's quite a few on petfinder.com.

I groom one named Daisy, who lives outside and doesn't get brushed. I sit on the floor with her, and demat her ears. She always falls asleep with my head on her lap. The goofy girl LOVES the brushing and dematting! I don't know many dogs who are that sweet.

I have to avoid Petfinder. I just want to save them all, but know that I can't. I work together with my vet and network of other rescuers to take care of many homeless pups until permanent homes can be found. We always have an extra dog or two around here.

Someday when one of my own pass on, I would like to consider adopting a standard poodle, but hopefully that day is still far away. I cannot stand the thought of my kids getting older. Ugh.

That's great! My Teenie Weenie girl is a failed foster. My first ever failure, LOL. She's a wonderful way to fail. She's come a long ways.

What kind of dogs do you have? You know, we do require new members to post photos, here[:D]

I would love to post photos of my kids. Where are they generally posted at? I don't want to completely hijack this thread.
    • Gold Top Dog
LOL, we have a "photos for sharing" section.

Alrighty, I have posted 3 of them under "Photos for Sharing". Unfortunately, my usual way of posting photos didn't work so I just had to post links. I'm not very computer literate so I don't know how to fix it when things don't just work right. [:)]
