Girlie Shampoo

    Girlie Shampoo

Can anyone recommend a shampoo that smells really pretty and lasts--but not too, too overwhelming.  Thanks.  (doggie shampoo, of course)

Mmm... I love nice-smelling shampoos! :)  My ultimate favorite to recommend would be Nature's Specialties - Plum Silky.  I was introduced to it in grooming school.  Smells divine, but not enough to make you choke.  The problem is that I *think* it's only available to groomers, I don't know of anywhere to find it, retail.  Their Smelly-Pet also has a nice lasting but mild smell.

    A-ha!  Found them online, retail:

It dilutes with water 24:1, so that bottle will make a lot of shampoo.

Another shampoo that my grooming customers rave about is Espree's rainforest.  It's a bit too floral for my tastes, but I use it anywhere because the owners love it so much![:)]

Thanks!  Have you ever tried John Paul Pet?  I wonder what those smell like?

I think I know where I can get Solid Gold shampoo.  I'll have to see.  Thanks.

Lori, I've never tried JPP.  There was a big displasy at Groom Expo in 05, but it was so crowded I couldn't get to "sniff" the products.  Though, I've used their human shampoos, and they have little to no fragrance.

Another brand I thought of was Bobbi Panter - apparently the smell re-engergizes itself after the dog gets wet, like when going out in the rain.  No more wet doggy smell! :)

I liked the groomax spa dog shampoos (particularly the apple/pear scent).

Thanks!  I'll into the options.  It's just that I really like her to smell good.  Hugging her when she smells good is sooooo awesome.  But, really strong scents make her eyes tear and she sneezes, she's pretty sensitive.

I absolutely LOVE the smell of Buddy Wash, but I don't know how long it lasts. My dogs' coats aren't heavy enough to hold smells, much.

HA, Jennie the only one I can find around here is for fleas.  WTH?

The neem one is NICE!!! I use the lavendar/mint, because I can't find the neem. Go figure. Maybe we should do a shampoo trade[;)]

Really?  OK, well then maybe I'll try it.  And, if you want me to send you some just let me know, no big deal.  I hate doing her at home.  But, on the chow board earlier this week a dog died after being groomed at the vets.  Now, he was sedated so that was probably it.  And, Willow doesn't need sedation or a muzzle for grooming--she's really, really good compared to some of the chows on the chow forum.  But, she always seems so tired and drained.  And, now with that in the back of my mind I'm just not comfortable.  It's probably irrational but at least for this month until that feeling leaves me I'm going to do her myself.

    Thanks!!

Honestly, I think it's just overstimulating. That, alone, can stress an old or sick pet to death (literally, a cat died on one of my coworkers, once). There's a LOT of sounds, a LOT of smells, and a lot of handling that some pets aren't used to getting. It wears Emma out to be groomed, but I make a full day of it (we always go somewhere WAY fun after I groom her). Sedation makes the whole thing trickier. I don't work on any animals who require more than Ace.

Sedation, in and of itself, scares the living daylights out of me. It's just such a tricky thing. Different animals need different doses, and there's no way to know who is sensitive, and who is going to leap out of the sedation and bite your face off (ok, ok, so maybe they don't do THAT, but I was holding a dog under 'conscious sedation' yesterday, and he snapped at me). It's just not something I care to deal with. It's good that Willow doesn't need sedation. That would be scary for you, and for her.

Do whatever makes you comfortable, but your groomer sounds like he's very good. I wouldn't worry about it, too much, as long as Willow is healthy. The neem smells really good, to me. It's a scent that I enjoy, a lot. It will help KEEP the critters (fleas, ticks, mosquitoes) away from Willow. It's a woodsy type of scent, so not really girly.

Thanks Jennie.  Yes, lots of chows are sedated with Ace.  And, they take two days from what I'm reading on the chow forum to come out of it.

Luckily, we don't have to worry about that.  I'm going to look into that shampoo it would be a plus to help with the bugs too. We've been hiking pretty regularly(I've discovered something I love) and now that the weather is getting warmer the extra help with that surely wouldn't hurt.

I just wanted to let everyone know I bought Baby Dog Shampoo by Crazy Pet from Petco.  I smells really nice and she does smell like a little puppy face now.  And, I can cancel this weekends grooming and we can go for a hike somewhere, YAY!
