    rough paws

My dog gets a lot of wear and tear on her pads due to snow, dirt, cement, ect...all the walking and playing leaves her pads cracked and rough. I have searched some things to aid them but I was wondering if anyone had any home remedies to cure the cracked feet?

I don't know how ideal this is, but I have some of that Neutrogena intensive care hand lotion and I just rub a tiny bit of that on my dog's paw pads. Then I keep him occupied (usually by brushing) so he forgets to lick them and doesn't run around and smear lotion everywhere.

Thank you so much for the tip!

I think some people use a paw wax (store-bought, can be found online) or bag balm (the stuff used I think on cows udders or something, but sold at drug stores and the like) to help protect the paws.

Alternatively, you could look into booties for your dog if she would wear them, neopaws and muttluks are two common brands for those.

Bag Balm, that stuff is awesome...and a little goes a long way.  People up here even use it on their own hands if they suffer from severe dry hands that often crack and bleed in the winter time.

Try rubbing a bit of Vasoline on them right after their bath.

[:D]I second the "bag balm"... we use it on the greys a lot at the rescue when they first come off the track. It cures everything!  If your pup tries to lick it off, use baby socks to cover it for awhile until it can absorb in a bit...

My friend uses cooking oil on her pup's paws.
