    Poor Boy

Poor barley had a bad morning today. Went of for normal walk, him having fun, weeing on every available piece of grass, dodging puddles and mud, you know normal doggy stuff. Then for no obvious reason he started to limb, i checked his paw incase he had stood on something, but all was fine there. I let him stand still for a few minutes then continued but still the same, with every step his limp got worse, we were only half way into our normal walk. He managed to limp to a bench where he layed down and refused to move for over 5 mins, in this time i occupied puzzle with a ball as he was getting very grumpy towards her as she wanted him to play and he was not in the mood. Eventually i helped him to his feet and we made our way back to the car. Thought about taking him to the vet but they are closed today so would have to pay for very expensive out of hours fee for something that could not be serious as first thought. He was better after having a rest but still limping. What was different about this limp was that it was his front leg not his back ones as we know he has problems with his hips so a front leg injury will not help at all. He has had some pain medication and some anti inflammatory stuff that we have spare for when he does overdo it or hurt himself. Rest for the rest of today and tomorrow, if he is no better of worse tomorrow he will go to the vet and have his hip x-rays moved forward and get his front leg done as well. he has had a heat pack on his shoulder and is currently sleeping with a blanket over him, snoring his head off. there is no swelling or heat, nothing in his foot, no cuts on his pad, so don't know what he has done but hope he gets better soon as we start training classes again on friday that we will probably have to miss now because of his leg, but we will see how he goes.

Oh poor Barley !  I hope it's nothing serious and some rest helps.   Sending lots of good vibes for him and for you.  It's tough to see them hurting and not knowing why is the worst.

When there is problem with back legs, it makes it WAY harder on the front legs.  Check the "opposite" back leg (in other words if he was limping/favoring the right front paw, double check the back left leg/hip area).

It's not a dire emergency for sure, but I'm glad to hear you will go to the vet tomorrow.

*Not* a substitute for the vet, but do you happen to have any peppermint or wintergreen essential oil?  Those can make an excellent massage oil  == could help Barley be more comfortable til you see the vet.

his worst hip is on the same side as the front leg that he was limping on..

I have given him some TTouch and massage already along with a few heat packs. He even got his dinner put in front of him so he did not have to get up to eat it, thus making him rest more and move less as getting up and down is difficult for him.

I'm sorry to hear about Barley . . . Hopefully he just tweaked something and will feel much better after some rest, heat packs, and extra TLC from you.  It's one of those times when we wish they could talk and tell us exactly what hurts.

    Keep us posted!

he is better today but still not 100%, weight bearing more. Still no heat or swelling so confused as to what he has done, but fingers cross he gets better and no more limping, if he starts limping again he will go strait to the vet as it is not fair on him having 3 sore legs.
