Whats the best type of dog shampoo to use on my dog

    what kind is the best

There are a lot of good shampoos available that you can choose from based on your dogs skin condition, coat type and even colour.

Try Pet Edge or something like that.

If you have a smooth coated shedding breed I like Best Shot.

I never shampoo mine.  I don't think you need to, but that's just me.  Enough brushing, a clean bed and a good diet keeps the skin and coat healthy and stops them from becoming smelly.  If they roll in something I wash it out with plain water.

Unless I'm working on a double coated dog (I love Best Shot Ultra for that), I will use just about any all natural shampoo.  I particularly like Bow Wows and Meows Glacial Rain and Oat a Coat.

Bunni, I'm SO glad that you and the adorable Poodles are hanging around more, now[;)]

I just use whatever. If they're itchy, I might use my nasty tar shampoo. I like Buddy Wash a lot right now, and that seems to work well for mine. I have some Tropiclean that smells pretty good, too. Dr. Bronner's is my favorite for frequent bathing and fleas, but it isn't technically dog shampoo, so some people think it shouldn't be used on dogs. It's just a very mild, organic, liquid soap.

Is your dog sensitive or allergic to any shampoos?  That would be my only concern.  Plus if they are double coated, I'd perfer something with a high sudsing action.

Outside of that, I've found most shampoos work just fine (even a cheap walmart brand dog shampoo, but those I find you gotta do a couple of soaping ups to get as clean as I like 'em).  Then again I have a sorta obsessive collection of dog shampoos hehe.  I really like how Crazy Dog shampoos smell and you can find that easily in petsmart and petco online or in store.  I also LOVE Tropiclean products.

Even some human shampoos can be used, but I'd be careful with those.  As a former groomer I usually reccomend people stay away from human shampoos because some can be overly harsh and/or irritating.

If you have a dog with sensitive skin, I recomened a hypoallergenic shampoo, gentle oatmeal bath, or a tar shampoo.

I really like the Tropiclean Oatmeal and Tea Tree.  It gets the dogs really clean and rinses out soooo easily!  Warning...don't put much on!  A little goes a long way!

I was reading another thread on this forum and most of the posters said that regular people shampoo or dawn dishwashing liquid is best!  I wouldn't use dishsoap but I did give Tasha a bath in my shampoo that I use for my own hair.  I have very dry hair and use very mild, shampoo.

I like Dawn (but I use it diluted, not the ultra kind, and I rinse REALLY well) and then mane and tail for a really dirty dog or Pet silk for a relatively clean one. :P The Tropiclean and Crazy dog products are nice but they smell really strongly to me.

I also like the ikaria brand from Petedge, but it comes in giant containers.

    Shea Pet is GREAT shampoo:

Anything with oatmeal, or lanolin. Both of which are very soothing, and aren't as drying as most shampoo's.

    Um, try this also:

www.barkplacepets.com and go to the "Spa" section.

The only thing about Dawn is that it can be very drying.  It works great on Skunked dogs....just be sure that your dog doesn't already have sensitive skin and that you rinse very very well.

I use good old Johnson's Baby Shampoo.
