I guess I am wondering about the diseases carried by ticks other than lymes.
Abby our 8 yr old little dog, was not acting her normal self I would say for a week, we didn't give it much thought. Figured she was just being her moody self. But then she wouldn't eat and was throwing up (now she has a history of not eating & holding out waiting for something better to come along and sometimes she will throw up yellow foam in the am - esp if her tummy is empty from refusing to eat what is in her dish)
But Monday and Tuesday we noticed her just laying around, pretty lifeless, won't even eat a milk bone or play. I was so worried I cancelled her groomer appt, thinking it was maybe heat related and I didn't want to take her out in the 90 degree temps. So, I called the groomer, told her what was up with Abby and the first thing she said is, I bet she could have lymes. (which I didn't understand because she was vaccinated for it - she explained that ticks carry other baterical diseases they can get. She told me take her in .
Well, I made an appointment for the next night, but when I got home she was a totally different dog, happy go lucky, eating drinking playing, so I cancelled the appointment. (I personally don't like taking them to the vet if not neccessary.) When I called to cancel the appt they just told me to watch her and bring her in if she gets bad again.
Tonight she is fine. So, do I worry, or let her tell me if she needs to go?
Sometimes I feel myself beating myself up, because Abby's life has changed with the addition of Freida to our family. She is not the queen bee anymore, and now she has to be in a crate during the day like Freida is. (but they are pretty good buds, other than Freidas bad manners). So, when Abby is not herself I tend to baby her more to make up for Freida being a bully.
