Gotti's eye

 Call the vet and get him in.  I never fool around with eye issues, I let the vet check it out.  He may have scratched it on something, and that is quite painful for the dog.  The vet can look at the eye and see what the problem is.

I agree that seeing the vet soon would be a good idea.  If there's something in there, you'd want to get it out relatively quickly -- obviously to make Gotti more comfortable, but also because it wouldn't take long for an infection to really take hold. 

On the other hand, I suppose you could try to flush the eye with warm water (I don't know if you can mix anything like saline in it or not).  That wouldn't work with our dog ---- she would never sit still for us to make any progress.  We'd have to go to the vet.  But if Gotti is a calm, cooperative dog, maybe you could try that to see if it helps, then see how it is tomorrow?

 I would definitely get it checked - it can be a very quick check really but you'll want to know whether he has a scratched lens/cornea. Its an easy test and not too pricey.

Bugsy did something to his eye at the beach last year and happily he didn't have a scratch but his eye was very irritated and looked awful. We wound up needing some drops and we did use saline solution to clean his eye out regularly. Healed quickly and with no issues

I was able to get a look in his eye and couldn't see anything that looked real bad. He's holding it more open now and it looks a little less aggravated. He HATES getting fussed over so he's miserable. And to top it off he ripped his dew claw yesterday when he was playing so he's all banged up and I'm trying to avoid checking him over too much. I know going to the vet won't help his nerves either. I have a good relationship with my vet and he is located close so I will bring Gotti there tomorrow morning if there's no improvement.

Is regular saline solution safe to use to wash it out?

I had an appointment to bring Gotti to vet but his eye looks much better this morning so I'm going to give it some more time. I was afraid it was going to be all crusty when I woke up but it's not and he seems like it's not bothering him so much.

Poor guy - we're getting 80 degree weather for the next couple days and he can't enjoy it!
