Damaged hair under collar

    Damaged hair under collar

I have a boxer that has a spot of severely damanged hair due to her collar.  How should I go about fixing this?  The collar has now been removed when can I expect to see an improvement?

I dont' think there is anything that you can do to help fix the hair that is damaged. When her new hair grows in after shedding she'll look like brand new. [;)]
I assume she was wearing a flat style collar?
If so, you might want to get her a round leather collar instead of the flat wide type. With a rounded leather collar is will slide across the hair instead of sit and rub against it.

Give your boxer a big hug and kiss for me...I love boxers!

I've always read that a rolled leather collar is the least damaging to a dog's coat, but I haven't found that to be true with mine.  My old guy has a permanent ring around his neck and he's been using a rolled leather collar for years.

It seems like no matter what kind of collar you use, it's going to damage the coat and of course, if you don't leave a collar on the dog, you worry about him getting loose and not being identified...

I don't use a collar on my show girl- but I plan on getting her tatooed this month for ID.  I just put a collar on her for walks and then take it right off afterwards.

I don't know of a way to fix the hair once it's damaged.

I don't know how to fix it, but I've managed to make Brown and Grey's damaged hair look less broken-looking by trimming that area. It's slightly shorter than the rest of their coat, but at least they don't have random pieces of hair poking all over the place. Grey's is the worst because he has thick, wavy hair that really fans out all over the place. I also have to trim his cow-licks. If I leave them there, it looks like he's sprouting wings.[sm=lol.gif]
