    Grooming a Shih Tzu's ears

I groom my own dog, and I like her clipped short, but I have the hair on her ears one length.  I am wondering if it would be better to layer them a bit so they don't get matted as easily and not so "fly away".  I know lots of people don't like a shih tzu to be clipped, but this is what is easiest for me to take care off, and she is comfortable.
So, for those of you who clip you Tzu's, whata ya think?

I don't have a Shih Tzu, but I clip other people's Shih Tzus fairly regularly:) I cut the ear hair one length, because that's usually how it looks the best.

I like them one length, but you can cut a bit of a layer and see how you like it. Hair will grow back. Just don't cut a lot at once.

I keep my Shih-tzus ears one length but, I do cut a little layer underneith the bottom of the ear to keep it from matting at the tips and cut layers in the hair on the face under the ears, now the have the length but dont mat up.  Hope this helps you.

My Shih Tzu has never been cut, just trimmed. I have asked the groomer to trim his face a bit so he's more comfortable and hair doesn't get in his eyes, but she basically says it's all or nothing. She can't cut one area and not the others. I have wanted to get him a puppy cut, but everyone thinks he's handsome and she's talked me out of it because she says he has no mats, is unique, and it would take awhile for the hair to grow back. She doesn't cut his ears one length though. I'm wondering if I should try another groomer.

I groom Trudy myself. SO much easier to do it at home! BUT, you do have to learn how to groom safely.

On my Mom's dog, a shih tzu, I clip underneath a bit shorter (sorry terrible at explaining myself without being able to show what I'm talking about).  Outside of that the ears are pretty much at one length b/t that looks best, but underneath you can't see it unless you hold the ear up.

I think I would find me another Groomer, I have a Groomer that Trims their around the Eyes area but not over top, Does their Nails, inside the ears and shaves the belly a bit so it dont mat, she does this because this is what I request to be done not because it is what she say's ,  I think it is my choice what is cut.
