Stinky pee odor

    Stinky pee odor

I don't know whose pee it is since they get to go anytime they want along the drainage at the side yard, but it really stinks of ammonia even after scrubbing with dettol and rinsing with diluted white vinegar. It only started to get really bad 3 days ago. I was trying to spot for cloudy or bloody pee, or straining to pee. None of the above but I might just miss it since it's into the drainage. I'm wondering if supplements could cause this or what kind of food would cause this, or is a visit to the vet's office up next?

If you have 3 dogs going in the same area, and especially if any are males, could it just be a build up?  Regularly drop lime in that area to help break it down.

If you suspect it is one of the dogs, trying to ID which will help.  In humans, the smell is often a sign of a UTI.

Yes a change in food, treats or both can change the odor.

Now it's just 2 of them peeing and when I do see them pee I'll rinse after them. I have most recently changed their supplements or rather, added a chinese TCVM medicine. I've check with Mordanna, she says B complex could make pee smell funky; I only knew it became yellow, almost bright yellow. Ahh it's quite disturbing and neighbors will soon be telling me to do something. I tried to check on their pee during our walk today, both seem ok, I guess it could be a build up coupled with change in medicine and supplement. I never experienced UTI with them so I'm not too sure what to look out for other than blood which isn't present. I've also changed their diet but that's more than 2 weeks now.

Lime helps? If I squeeze a lime or lemon on the drainage, it isn't dangerous for them to be sniffing it right?

No no not lime as in a fruit.  This, lawn lime:

Oh! How embarrassing lol! I don't have grass on the drainage stretch, it's concrete with drain covering running along the side. Is there anything I can use to eliminate the odor for drainage?  White vinegar worked till it got so bad...

Sandi's right  -- any of the above could change the odor or the pH.  MY typical remedy is baking soda (soda bicarbonate?)  That might be easier for you to get? (i get it at the grocery store)

You are talking about the odor of it outside, not inside, right?

Baking soda to sprinkle on the drainage? It's safe if they inhale? Yup outside. Axl used to mark in the house, the rest don't but the only time we really get strong smells is during the rainy season when it never dries up outside. This time, wind blows and the whiff of ammonia is bad. I hope it's just the change of diet and supplements and not a UTI or something. Their poop is also mushy, I've added probiotics and still mushy, guess I need to stop the heart tonic for abit.

Have you told Sabine about the mushy poop; she may want to add more fiber to their diet. Some signs of a UTI are drinking more water, peeing more often, or not wanting to pee (because it hurts). My brother was based in Thailand when he was in the Air Force and I remember him talking about the rainy season; I guess you'll be glad when it ends.

Baking soda is safer than just having ammonia (urine) in the drainage!  Yes -- it's safe.  It's not toxic.  Salty, but not toxic

I was cutting their nails in addition to our usual combing this evening, and while cutting Alphie's, Ashton went out to pee 3 times in 15 mins. This seemed like a once off, his pee looked yellow enough to look like pee but not too obvious on the drainage trap. Wonder if this is the cause, but it didn't smell too bad. I'll also try the baking soda.

Yup I told Mordanna about the mushy poop. She mentioned to give more probiotics and pumpkin and it should clear in afew days. It hasnt

I've been thinking about this and want to raise a question.  Now, I have no clue what you mean by drainage trap / ditch.  I don't know what that may be.  BUT:  having all that urine on concrete is not good, it will erode the concrete over time.  Do you want them peeing there or was this just where they decided to go?  So, just thought I would raise the issue for you to consider.

. Is it a lot or just like dime size? Is he drinking more than usual? Does he strain to pee? I ask all this because Tootsie was on antibiotics for 3 months cause of a UTI.

It's actually a concrete yard alongside the house, about 20m and along that is a drain covered with those drainage covering we normally see at the outer side of swimming pools to prevent water overflows. They will stand on the drain and pee there, while they will poop at one end of the yard with a wooden platform which is cleared everytime they poop. They don't pee on the concrete so I can't see the color. I will rinse the drain covering sometimes scrub it but always rinse with white vinegar over. Ashton didn't dribble and he pees quite a normal amount each time, just more often. I monitored today, it was just one-off last night. But the poop, still mushy. I'll stop the Chinese heart tonic for now.
