    "Causes

There are a variety of causes for aplastic anemia, including infections, toxins, drugs, and chemicals which may cause aplastic anemia in dogs. Following are some major causes of aplastic anemia in dogs:

    Infections

    • Canine parvovirus infection
    • Rikettsial organism infections (e.g., ehrlichia)

    Drugs and chemicals

    • Estrogen administration
    • Chemotherapeutic drug administration
    • Albendazole (for parasitic treatment)
    • Some types of antibiotics
    • NSAIDs (given for relief of pain and inflammation)
    • Radiation therapy in cancer patients"

    Hi Anita --

You will want to post on the AIHA/IMHA thread -- Aplastic Anemia is essentially a related disease to those.  I told you that you'd find nice folks on here, didn't I???  (I've been talking to Anita for a long time).

That's the link to the last page of the thread today.

No not the same -- similar.  Similarly treated.  Was just suggesting you might get good support from the others there.  And no -- it's not a tick disease.

And no -- it's not a tick disease.

But it can be caused by a tick disease:

  • Rikettsial organism infections (e.g., ehrlichia)

Adult deer ticks are about one eighth of an inch (1/8";) long.  Ticks that small can easily go unnoticed.

White-footed mice are a favorite host of those ticks, so the ticks can easily be in someone's backyard.

If you did not test, you DO NOT KNOW if your dog has a tick-bourne disease.

    Did you test?
