    HONEY ATE HER TOY

HONEY WOULD PICK A SMALL HOLE IN A TOY AND PULL ALL THE STUFFING OUT, SO WE GOT HER A STUFFLESS TOY THA IS AN ORTTE OR MINK OR SOME ANIMALS LIKE THAT--LONG AND THIN, NO LEGS.  SHE LOVED IT.  TONIGHT I WAS ON THE COMPUTER AND I COULD HEAR HER ON THE AHLL AND IT SOUNDED LIKE SHE WAS CHEWING ON A RICK.  I WENT TO CHECK ON HER AND WHEN SHE SAW ME COMING SHE SWALLOED.

THERE BETWEEN HER FRONT PAWS WA JUST THE HEAD OF THE TOY, MINUS THE SQUEAKER (WHEY CAN'T THAT LEAVE THOSE THINGS OUT) AND THERE WAS NO SIGN OF THE REST OF THE TOY ANYWEHE TO BE FOUND.  SHE HAD TO HAVE SWALLOWED IT, AND WAS CHEWING ON THE SQUEAKER THING AND SWALLOWED IT WHEN SHE SAW I WAS COMING AND WOULD REMOVE IT.

IT WAS 3 YEARS AGO SHE ATE MYHUSBANDS LEATHER WALLET, EXCEPT FOR HIS PICTURE SECTION.  I MEAN THE ENTIRE THING EXCEPT THE PICTURE SECTION.  SHE ALSO CHEWED THE CORNERS OFF THE ONLY PERSOANL CREDIT CARD HE HAD IN THERE (THANKK GOODNESS, DIDN'T CHEW THE COMPNAY ONES) AND ALSO THE CORNERS OFF HIS DRIVER'S LICENSE.

A FEW MONTHS LATER HE LEFT HIS LEATHER WORK GLOVES ON THE TABLE WHEN HE CAME IN FOR LUNCH, WENT OUT 30 MINUTES LATER AND HONEY HAD EATEN ONE HOLE GLOVE.  NOT LONG AFTER THAT SHE ATE ABOUT 6" OFF THE EDN OF ON OF HIS OLD LEATERH BELTS.  SO FAR  WE HAVE BEEN LUCKY AND SHE HAS NOT RUN INTO PROBLEM,S BUT i AM NOW WORRIED ABOUT THE MAUNT OF CLOTH SHE SWALLOWED TONIGHT.  THIS GIRL IS BETWEEN 10 1/2 AND 11 AND IT IS HARD TO BELIEVE SHE STILL ACTS SO MUCH LIKE A PUPPY.  cOULD USE SOME GOOD THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS THAT I FIND LOTS OF "FAKE FUR" IN HER POOP OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS.

THIS IS MY NAUGHTY GIRL TAKEN JUST BEFORE CHRISTMAS.

You really need to keep UNopened bottles of Hydrogen Peroxide and a Turkey Baster in the house! When a dog swallows a soft tiem, ) one with out prongs or hard edges it is possible to make them empty their stomach by giving them 1-2 ounces squirted  down their throat.  ( you want to do this outside to minimize the clean up and mess).

Injesting items like this can be fatal to a dog, waiting for them to pass can be a huge mistake.  Taking a dog of Honey's age into the vet for them to operate is both terribly expensive and dangerous.

I'm terribly sorry that you have to go through this with her and even more sorry that She has to go through it.  She sounds like one of thoes dogs that you just have to watch like a hawk and keep everything up around. I would restrict her toy acess to times that I could closely supervise her.

Good Luck , please keep everyone informed!

Goodness gracious, Honey, don't they FEED you there?  LOL silly girl, sure hope you don't get sick or need surgery for this swallow.

WELL, HONEY DIDN'T POOP THIS MORNING BUT DID ABOUT 15 MINUTES AGO, NO TROUBLE POOPING.  IT WAS A LITTLE LARGER THAN I AM USE TO WITH HER, BUT SHE IS ON DIFFERENT FOOD--TO MUCH PROTIEND= SCIENCE DEIT KD.  ON TASTE OF THE WILD, HE POOPS WOULD BE ONE LITTLE POOP ABOUT THE SIZE OF MYT LITTLE FINGER.  WITH THE sd IT WAS 3 LARGER ONES.  GREAT SUBJECT, HUH?

BUT I AM STILL KEEPING A VERY CLOSE ON HER.  SHE IS ACTING PERFECTLY NORMAL FOR NOW.  UNFORTUNETLY MY VET IS ON VACATION OVER AT THE MRDI GRAS (HE IS FROM LAKE CHARLES LA)  I KNOW HE IS VER SELECTIVE OF A FILL IN VET, BUT I STILL MUCH OPREFER FOR MY HONEY TO SEE HIM.

Sending good thoughts for Honey.  If everything she ate was leather, it's quite possible that she will slowly digest it and it will pass in her stool without you noticing. (((Sandra))) I know how worried you are.

no, not leayher, but a furry toy and the squeaker.  She had no toruble with the leather wallet, glove and pice of belt in the past, but i am not sure about this.  She let me know at 5:30 it was her supper time.  she ate just fine.

But I am still watching her like a hawk.  I dont' know what possessed her to eat that toy.  She has played with them for years and never ate one.....tear them up, yes, but eat them, no.

Sandra - you'll never know "why".  Shoot -- Billy was TWELVE when he ate that stupid quarter and I don't think he EVER ate *anything* inappropriate the whole time he was with me -- and he decided to eat that stupid quarter that day.Obstructed?  yep!  But showed up nice and shiney on an x-ray! *sigh*

I GUESS AGE DOESN'T MEAN A THING TO DOGS AND THEY WILL SUDDENLY AND FOR NO REASON DO THINGS THEY NEVER DID BEFORE.

THE FIRST GORDON SETTER I "MET IN PERSON" WAS AT MY VET'S.  HE WA LIKE 111 AND IN FOR AIN INJECTION IN HIS SHOULDER.  THE GUY SAID THEY DOG HAD RIDDEN IN THE BACK FOR HIS PICKUP SINCE IT WAS A PUPPY AND SUDDEN AT ABOUT 10 JUMPED OUT WHILE THE TRUCK WAS MOVING.  LUCKILY THE GUY WAS GOING SLOW.  THE DOG HAD A LOT OF ROAD RASH AND BROKE A BONE IN HIS SHOULDER.  HE HAD TO GET SHOTS EVERY MONTH FOR THAT SHOULDER, BUT WOULDALWAYS HAVE THAT LIMP..]

OUR SCOOTER WAS NEVER ALLOWED IN THE BACK OF RON'S PICKUP, NO MATTER HOW WET AND MUDDY HE WAS AFTER RETRIVING DUCKS.  PUT A BLANKET IN THE CAB AND HE WRODE IN THERE.  IT SCARES ME SEEING DOGS RIDING IN THE BACKS OF PICK-UPS AND THAT IS COMMON DOWN HERE WITH ALL THE REDNECK GOOD OLE COUNTRY BOYS LIKING TO DRIVE AROUND WITH THEIR GUNS IN REAR WINDOW AND LABS OR GOLDENS IN BED OF PICK-UP.  I A A "GOOD OLE REDNECK OLD FOGEY, BUT WOULD NEVER ALLOW A DOG IN THE BED OF A TRUCK.

W3E HAD THOUGHT MYBE SHE LIKED TO EAT THE LEATEHR THINKS BECAUSE HUBBY HAD SWEATED AND THRY PROBABLY TASTED A LITTLE SALTY, PLUS BEING LETHER WAS MUCH LIKE A RAWHIDE (WHICH i DO NOT TIVE).  BUT THAT FAKE FUR TOY AND SQUEAKER, THAT IS A DIFFERENT STORY.

HONEY IS STILL HER USUAL BOUNCING SELF, EATING JUST FINE.  DID ANOTHER LARGE POOP AFTER SUPPER, TRIED TO CON ME OUT PART OF MY SUPPER.

Either she didn't really eat it, or she's a charmed girl, Sandra!!

She  had to have eaten it.  She had it on the livingroom floor when I came back tp computer. The back door was shut as was the door to hall bathroom and one bedroom. I had been here about 30 minutes when I heard her chewing what I thought was a rock or sshell she had brought in from the yard earliery.  She was on the bed in the 3rd bedroom chewing away and when she saw me at the doorway, she swallowed.  I went to her and found that little piece of the critters' head.

I looked all over the livingroom, dining/kitchen and that 3rd bedroom for the rest of the body and squeaker, but couldn't not find it.  It would have had to hav been in one of those rooms.  Have looked couple more times just for sake of lukcing, but found no part of it.

You know, maybe she is charmed girl.  She had been one hour from being gassed at the county pound when the little local rescue snatcher her and we adopted her.  Turns out she was heart worm positive and we had her treated and now, over 9 years later her heart aqnd lungs are perfect, not affected at all by worms or treatment (have it x-rayed every year.)

We accvidently knock a block of d-con out of attic, didn't noice it  and she found and ate ate it.  If I had not seen her throw up I would have not known she had found and eaten that mouce poison.  Got her right to the vet, they gave her charcoal (I think that was hwat it was), heavy dose of Vitamin K and had her on it for 45 days and she was fine.

She had no problme passing the leather wallet along with the corners of the driver's license & credit card, the leather glove, or the 6" of leather belt.  We really didn't think that place on her leg 3 years ago was anything, but I had Rickey remove it anyway, and underneath was "very ugly" to qyote him, and turns out it was mast cell tumor and he had to do more surgery and cut out a much larger area of her leg.

Yes, I would say she has led a chrmed life so far, but you 3ever know when one's luck can change, so I am still keeping a very close eye on her  She has always been bad about chewing paper like corners off envelopes, chewing up napkins, paper towels, tissues if she can get to them.  And she has always picekd her toys and took stuff out (til wse started getting unstuffed ones), but she had never eaten any part of her toys before.
