    Is this normal...

Hi guys I am a worried about Daveys neauter and would like for you guys to take a look at it. It looks worse than it was yesterday.  He has had the cone on nonstop and anytime he was not with me yesterday he was in the bathroom I am kind of worried that the cone is not fitting him right and he can still get to it to lick it when I am not watching. I correct him when I see him try to lick it and he stops but I can not tell if he could reach it if I was not there to stop him. The cone that was the next size down was to small and I think this one is to big. Anyway here is a picture and then a video of yesterday,  because sometimes the video is a little more clear than the picture with my camera, and then some of today. He is eating and drinking normal and not acting strange other than he's still trying to lick it. I have been keeping him calm and not letting him run or jump but I am worried that last night while I was alseep he may have been licking it. I can take him to the vet tomorrow or if you guys think I should I could take him to the emergency vet but I have read lots of bad reviews about them and am not really comfortable takeing Davey there but I will if you guys think I need to.

Those pictures from today would have me calling the vet first thing in the morning.  But I'd be keeping an eye on it, and if it got worse, I'd be off to an emergency clinic.

Hes also shivering like he is cold and while it is chilly this morning its not that cold.
    • Gold Top Dog

I don't know that the shivering is pertinent but it could be. I agree with micksmom's advice to keep a close eye on him today and make sure he's not licking it.  If you can take his temperature, I'd do that too. If he's running a higher than normal temp, I'd take him in today.  It's hard to tell from the pictures if he's removed stitches or not.  Rex took his stitches out three times after his neuter despite every sort of cone and vigilance on our part.  No harm done and he never got an infection so I hope Davey has the same outcome.

I agree with the others; sending healing thoughts for Davey.

Thanks you guys. He has stopped shivering so I think maybe he was cold this morning. It was cold in here this morning because we ran out of kerosene sometime last night while we were asleep. I am going to take him to my vet tomorrow just to make sure he is okay. And thanks for the healing vibes.

Should I put one of those butterfly bandaids on it? Just until I can get him to the vet tomorrow that way if he licks it he will only get the bandaid?
    • Gold Top Dog
I wouldn't put any sort of bandage on it, but if you have a little baby onsie, you could put that on him and that'd keep him from licking but it'd still get air.
    • Gold Top Dog
I don't have a onsie. Also I just watched him when he tried to lick it and he can reach the incision so now what do I do?
    • Gold Top Dog
Are you sure the cone is on him correctly?

To me that looks a little infected so going to the vet tomorrow is a good idea.

Just wanted to let you guys know I figured out how to fix it were the cone will not slide down. I put a kotex Embarrassed around his neck behind the collar and cone then put tape around the kotex so it would not come off. The kotex was the perfect length to go around his neck. Here are some pics incase you guys want to see it:

And then here is one of his stink face when he relized he could not lick his incision any more:

Oh, now that is humiliation! Poor baby ;)
    • Gold Top Dog
    LOL he is not pleased
    • Gold Top Dog
Nope but its his own fault for licking his incision. Another friend of mine said his look says, "First my mom cut my manhood and now shes makeing me wear a Kotex," LOL.

Well, now thats resourceful.  I agree with everyone else....vet tomorrow.  I don't like the look of it.

    Feel better soon Davey!
