Bump/Lump on my boxer

    Bump/Lump on my boxer

Last Tuesday, I noticed Marley had a quarter sized raised bump on his side behind his left shoulder. Honestly, the first thing I thought was wow...that mosquito must have been huge to leave a welt like that! because it wasnt unusual for Mar to have bites from mosquitos since they have been SO bad this year.
Then the next night I noticed that it was still there and I automatically was concerned because no other bug bite lasted more than a few hours. I messed with it a little and could feel a harder lump under the skin but it was movable and not connected.
Well, last night he jumped up on me (like he always does) on the chair and I was petting him and noticed a dark spot. I brought him into the kitchen under the light and saw that it was dried blood on that bump. I took alcohol to clean off the area and try to get a better look at it and when I was doing this I was kinda "pinching" it to get the  dried blood off and it started bleeding more. Not oozing blood or anything but I saw fresh blood on the paper towel.

I tried to get an appt for him at the vet's for tomorrow but the Doc was full and his son that is a vet there doesnt work the same weekends that Mar's vet does. He has an appt on Monday at 4:15.

Please keep Marley in your thoughts or prayers. I hate finding bumps or lumps on boxers :(

Dont know if this is similar or not, but about 2 weeks ago I saw a little pink bump on Marley's lip so of course I kept a watch on it. It got larger by the second day (still very small though) and by the third day, it popped. He still has the mark of it there but its no longer raised. I am going to have the vet check that area out too.

Have the Vet check it out.  Jamison had a similiar type thing that turned out to be a some kind of cytoma  that had to be removed - but it had opened too.

Better that it opens outward rather than inward .. getting him in to the vet is the big thing and also keep track of it to know if it has increased/decreased or change in consistency or hardness since you found it.

    Good luck!

Definately sending good vibes your way!

Absolutely what Callie said; keep track of the size. Alcohol burns, so you may want to use hydrogen peroxide to clean it. Sending no cancer vibes your way.

Had a good appointment at the vet's office. He said that it was more than likely an infection (from what? He wasnt sure, but said that he wouldnt worry about it on his own dog) that burst open and would heal. He said that he would do a biopsy on it if I really wanted, but he wouldnt advise it yet. He wants to re-check him in a week and if at that time, it looks worse, he will do a biopsy. He doesnt want to put Marley through sedation and stress for nothing.

I was worried about it being a MCT and he said he was sure that it wasnt. He said two things that proved to him that it was a MCT was the fact that it was movable (which I checked by the second day the lump was there) and that it burst open. He said MCT's wouldnt do that. On a scale from 1-10 to be worried, he said this was about a 2.

He gave him antibiotics for a week which I tried to wrap in cheese and Marley promptly spit out. I am going to try tonight with a hotdog and making him catch it.....if he spits it out again, then I will drop that pill down his throat withOUT any cheese or hotdog LOL

Thank you everyone for the well wishes and good vibes. Very much appreciated!

Glad to hear that Marley's lump appears to be nothing serious.

Me too. I hope the sore heals quickly.

So happy to see Marley's bump is very probably nothing to worry about. I hope the antibiotics help to heal it fast and that he will have a good re-check in a week.

If he spits it out again, you might try the empty (no pill) treat, empty treat, pilled treat, empty treat method. It's the only way I was ever able to pill my dad's cat.

Get better soon Marley!  Don't worry your mama like that.  Smile
