    yeasty smelling skin in puppy

So i have recently aquired a 13 week old (blue tri) APBT puppy, that ive had since he was 8 weeks old.  Hes eating natural balance (the ultra formula) currently, I was originally feeding solid gold wolf cub but his stool never would solidify.  We just started carrying Innova, so im debating on switching him to that if food may be an issue..But anyways, no obvious skin issues other than a few small scabs here and there occasionally - but i blame that on living with two big dogs and 2 cats that he gets tumbled around alot!  I know blue dogs can overall have skin problems, but  no patchy coat or excessive scratching..but ive noticed he has a slight yeasty smell to his skin. I recognize that smell from when my golden used to always get yeast infections in her ears.. you dotn forget that smell!  So i know that i ccan get a medicated shampoo from my vet, but are there any suggestions out there otherwise supplement or food wise that may help with this as well?  Im really hoping hes not going to have yeast problems forever! Confused

    thanks for any suggestions!

given that you are in the midst of teething and this IS a bully breed, you will need to be watchful for demodex.  It has a smell that is similar -- always starts on the face (looks like little dandruffy patches and then becomes sore -- sometimes red and 'wet', sometimes scabby)

If you've never experienced demodex you may want the vet to look at it.  I've got a way of treating demodex that avoids pesticides and dips -- email me if you want my information.  I'm no vet but I've helped hundreds and hundreds of folks with demodex dogs.

If it is simply yeast you can always bathe in Selsun Blue (don't leave it on a long time and dilute it before you put it on the skin so it doesn't just not dissolve) but it is honestly really good for yeasty skin.

Thanks Callie..i have dealt with demodex before..my akita had a small spot on his face when he was a puppy, and then before my golden died, when her immune system was failing she battled it off and on for the last year of her life..I will keep an eye for any patchy areas and will be brought to my vet for a skin scraping if i come accross any.
