White flower oil for arthritis?

    White flower oil for arthritis?

Jessie limps after getting up when she's been resting. Usually she only limps for a few steps and then walks normally, but it's been bothering her more lately. She's had x-rays and her hips are fine but she has arthritis in both knees. It's the right knee that bothers her. She's been on joint supplements, CoQ10, curcumin, and fish oil for years and has been doing well until recently. I've started massage and acupressure and thought white flower oil was supposed to be good for it too, or some kind of oil? Anyone know? Callie?

Callie has a post on canine massage here:  http://community.dog.com/forums/p/111793/916409.aspx#916409

White Flower Oil is a blend -- wintergreen, peppermint, eucalyptus and maybe more -- it's just a darned good blend, particularly for bone pain (like real arthritic inflamed bone pain).

http://www.morningstarhealth.com -- go to the massage oils section -- you want the LARGE bottle (which is still tiny) *girn*.

I also like WoodLock oil (and Glenda LOVES it).  That's a more exotic woodsy scent -- it rocks for arthritis, but it truly excels at muscle stuff as well.

seriously -- Foxy the Mostlie Sheltie taught me that -- if his sciatica was bothering him (poor old guy had sciatica in BOTH rear legs) he wanted WoodLock (would knock my hand off the other bottle and point the sheltie nose at the WoodLock and SIGH)

But if it was his back (he had some spondylosis just in front of his kidneys on the spine) HE WANTED WHITE FLOWER.   No joke -- and I found out he was danged right.

YOu can get both of those at MorningstarHealth and he is AWESOME to work with as well.  Additionally, I use the tiny wee bottles of Yee Tin oil in my purse - that's an awesome quality peppermint oil and both that and White Flower absolutely rock to knock a migraine out before it forms if you get it in the aura  phase!  no joke.  I carry one or both in my purse ALL the time.  Both are also good for a sinus headache and will help unblock your nose.

Now -- that said -- don't be afraid to just use pure peppermint or wintergreen oil from a health store.  They are excellent as well.  In fact you can get a good quality of either of those at http://www.leavesandroots.com

But the thing I would add is NutraJoint -- now it's been bought by Osteo Biflex so now it's called Osteo Biflex Knox Nutra Joint (long label huh?) -- but they haven't changed the formula.  I'm back to using that myself.

That will actually help rebuild the cartilage in her knees -- it takes about 2-3 months tho -- it's NOT a painkiller at all, so use it with something else.  But it literally helps put the stuff that the body needs at its disposal so it can RE-BUILD cartilage.

The massage and acupressure are working; Jessie's doing much better now, almost back to normal.

Janet, I forgot to thank you for posting the link for me. I had searched the forum but couldn't find the post you linked, and it was just what I was looking for; thanks.Big Smile

Callie; I wouldn't have thought of trying massage and oil if it wasn't for reading your posts describing how much it helped your dogs. When x-rays showed the limping was from arthritis in her knee, I asked my vet if I could try massage and acupressure instead of the rimadyl he wanted to prescribe and he said that was fine, and if she wasn't better in a few days he could prescribe rimadyl then. Fortunately, she doesn't need it. Thanks again to both of you.

It works -- it truly does.  People think I'm kidding when I tell them I have had arthritis since I was a kid and I only take TWO OTC ibuprophen *a day*.  Now I take a valerian blend herbal cap that simply relaxes the joint,I take Knox Nutra Joint to rebuild cartilage, but for pain it's just the oils and the 2 lowly Advil.

If I can't reach it I just dribble on the oil.  But on the dogs?  it rocks.  It truly does.  And a good quality peppermint or wintergreen oil are FINE.
