Dyeing Dog's Fur Question

    Dyeing Dog's Fur Question

Have any of you ever temporarily dyed your dog's fur/hair?

I am considering dying them pink for a dog walk event this Saturday that my co-workers and I are participating in to raise $$ for Breast Cancer research. Normally, I would never consider doing anything like that, but this is for a good cause. I went online and learned that you can use either food coloring or non-sweetened kool-aide diluted in water and bathing them in it. Then, afterward, you can wash it out with Dawn dish detergent.

I'm just looking for some feedback, pros, cons, etc.

    Thanks!

Why wash them in Dawn? Just let it wear out! It does, just fine. I've using Clairol Jazzing, food coloring, chalk (you wet it down, and paint them with it), and Koolaide. If you don't want it to last, don't use the Clairol Big Smile That took 3-4 weeks with weekly baths, to come out of Bean's hair. If you use Koolaide, mix it with conditioner, and saturate them in the colored conditioner. Let them sit for 15-20 minutes, and rinse. You'll avoid coat drying from the acids in the drink mix, and it stains the hair pretty well. It does wash out, after a couple of washes.

I did Pirate's mohawk with Manic Panic!! I got it from Sally Beauty Supply. The only reason I don't do it on a more regular basis, is that it draws waaaay too much attention to him from strangers, and he's not a strangers type of dog, if you catch my drift :) Google "Manic Panic Pets" and there should be a whole page of poodles and such in pretty awesome patterns. I would give you the link but I should be doing homework right now!

The only advice I can give is WEAR GLOVES. Blue hands make people look at you funny.

Manic Panic will give you a lot of saturated color, but it WILL last quite awhile.

But if you chalk or use kool-aid, you'll get a weaker color that will wash out faster.

I just let my dogs wear it until it washes out.  Riv's still quite pink from Halloween.  Speaking of which, I need to get some ordinary day pics for Jennie.

Thanks! I'm leaning toward the Kool Aid/Conditioner idea since I really don't want it to last long. It's mainly for the one day event and that's it. I just hope I can get them to stay still for 10-15 minutes! LOL

Last year, one of our clients dyed her dog's hair green for Howl-O-Ween to match her lizard costume.  I think she used a mild food coloring solution.  She just let it wear off afterward.
