What can you give your dog for an upset stomach?

Let your dog take a 24 hour break when he has upset stomach. After that give him some boil rice and skinless chicken. Yogurt and cottage cheese will help the inflamed intestines. You can also mix Gatorade into the dog’s water bowl. Animals, unlike humans stop drinking when they feel sick. You need to do everything in your power to avoid dehydration. Some symptoms of upset stomach are lethargy, vomiting, persisting high fever, increased thirst, abdominal pain, constipation, and loss of appetite. If your dog remains sick and refuses to drink fluids a trip to the vet might be your last option. Most dogs overeat and like eating rubbish. They have no idea of what tastes good or bad. They just try everything they find on their way. Dogs have a less developed sense of taste. However, their sense of smell is more developed than humans. They can get a lot of information through their sense of smell. Dogs are meat lovers. However, they can’t make a difference between the different types of meat. If your dog eats pork there is a risk of your dog being infected with food borne disease called trichinellosis. This disease is caused by an intestinal roundworm. Trichinellosis isn’t that common in USA. Your dog should be fine if you avoid raw or undercooked meat. Nevertheless, chocolate, onions, caffeine, raw eggs, wild mushrooms, raw fish, fried food, cornmeal, and nutmeg will also make your doggie’s stomach upset.

The sugar in Gatorade is among the last things I'd want to give my dog if he had an upset stomach.

Also, this is word-for-word lifted from a blog. Does this belong to you, personally - ie, did you write it?

Hi, thanks for your comment. Of course I wrote it. I just like sharing it on other websites as well. Also, I try for my blogs and comments to reflect my love and respect for dogs and people:) Sadly, some people don't do the same...but whatever you sow that you'll also reap. Paige- I am not certain whats going on here, but I think you are looking at devine retribution for something you may or may not have done in an earlier life. Either that or you are supposed to take up farming.

If my dogs are showing those symptoms, my first option is the vet. It sure is heck isn't my "last option." Any time that a fever is involved, it's time to go to the vet.

My dogs are raw fed dogs. They have been raw fed for the past two & a half years. They eat a variety of raw meats, fish included. They also eat meals consisting only of raw eggs from time to time, with no issue. Maybe I'm just lucky....... Confused

Well, I did just plant some new petunias and snapdragons.... I wonder what I will reap... I hope it's something fun. Cuz this is giving me a good laugh so far... lol

Yes the vet is my last option. I’m not like some of you that freak out and call the vet for every little thing that happens to your dog. If the fever is serious then I call the vet. That’s why I have a dog’s thermometer for ha ha. It works fine for me because is non-contact & it doesn’t hurt my doggie. If I don’t seem to be able to handle the situation then I call the vet. I’m trying to be nice here but it seems that people in this website are very negative... I try sharing info that’ll help others. Yes, raw food is not good if your doggie has an upset stomach, at least when my Italian greyhound is sick I’ll rather not feed him with uncooked meat that might have bacteria in it specially pork. I appreciate your comments but I’m sure that if your dogs could write or speak they’ll have nicer or better things to say :) I leave you all talking to yourselves…Not sure I want to waste my energy writing for this website. It was nice to meet you.

That’s why I have a dog’s thermometer for ha ha. It works fine for me because is non-contact & it doesn’t hurt my doggie.

Anyone have any idea at all how a "non-contact" thermometer could possibly work?

For any lurkers who don't know trichinellosis has been eliminated from the U.S. domestic pig population. However, wild boars and bears could carry this worm, so the meat from those should always be well cooked before human or pet consumption.

This worm is probably the original source of religious prohibitions against eating pork.
