    Not sure what it is...

Okay so I'm trying not to worry and haven't heard it today, then again I've been passed out most of the day haha. Anyway, so ever since Thursday Simba's voice has been different. Not exactly when he barks, but when he whines, it sounds rather husky, almost like he's a smoker is the best way I can describe it. I'll try to get a video of it if I can. My mom took him to the vet and she said its probably allergies, she did not actually hear it though. I don't think it is allergies, because he does have mild allergies during the spring and it was nothing like this. Has anyone had anything similar? If it helps he was boarded for a few days while I was in Florida, but I'm not sure it's kennel cough. :-s Again I'll try to get a video of it if I can.

To put your mind at ease, I would say probably not kennel cough.  I've seen quite a few cases of that and it is just a dry hacking cough and it is very consistent.  If that's what it was you definitely would have heard it today.

He has had kennel cough once before, though I've read there's different strains I don't think it is either. I find it a bit funny that we're both 'sick' at the same time. Though other than that odd sound, he seems like his normal, crazy self. Eating and drinking normally...

That's what my dad said too haha. Even though I doubt thats what it is, I wonder if it is possible. I mean I guess it does happen since his bark is not the same as it used to be.

How old is Simba? Jessie has laryngeal paralysis and it makes her voice sound huskier if she whines. It's usually something that large dogs develop when they're older. Often, a voice change is one of the first symptoms. As the condition progresses, the dog develops a cough and pants more when exercising.

Simba will be 9 months on the 25th. I will check that out, I hope it's nothing serious. :-s

Did you notice this ONLY after you came back after he was boarded??

Almost exactly the same thing happened to Luna -- I boarded her and she barked herself senseless and actually made herself HOARSE.

Buddy's voice has changed as he gets older.  Deeper, huskier when he barks.  He's 11.5 years old now.  Sad

Yep...our dogs always come back from boarding hoarse. They also take a couple days to readjust to the QUIET! rule here.

You know my mom said that yesterday and I think that might've been it. :-s That makes me feel guilty for having him boarded but apparently he was really well behaved while there. Guess when the people left for the night he would bark along with the other dogs.

Mick had acquired LP, but there's also an inherited form of it.

Aaa, thank you.  Mick lived another 4+ years after his diagnosis.  We had to have him pts a little over 4 years ago at the ripe old age of 15 1/2.

I'm sorry; I didn't know he had passed. Jessie's almost 12 and is still able to walk an hour a day if I get her out early before it gets warm, but she pants much more than when she was first diagnosed, which was about 15 months ago. Fortunately, if and when she needs surgery, we live close to a vet teaching hospital.
