    3 year Rabies vaccine?

First, Tootsie is due for her rabies, distemper and lepto. Also they want to do a fecal. I opted out of the distemper and lepto, So she'll get the rabies and a fecal. How important are the other two? Also its $57 for the rabies and $20 for the fecal. Is this high?

I can't offer a whole lot of advise but was just wondering if Titers are an option?

Sounds high, to me. I get 3 year rabies, on mine, and if I'm remembering right, it's like $15 for a 1 year or $25 for a 3 year. If you're JUST doing the shot, you could shop around a little.... If you like your vet, and she's getting an exam, I'd stick with the good vet.

I've always been under the impression that the one year and three year shots are the exact same.  Is this right I wonder?

When I take mine to the vet just for shots they usually give me a tech appointment so I don't have to pay the $44 office visit fee.  I think I pay like $15 for the rabies vaccine (3 year) and maybe $10 or so for the fecal.  $54 sounds really high to me.  Is that with the office visit included in that price?

They're labeled different, and you get a different piece of paper. The paper is what is important, so....

I keep proof of rabies in my glove box, just in case.

They are the same thing.  They, literally, drawn up from the same bottle, or tray.

Here a rabies vaccination (one or three year) costs $15.  Fecals usually run around $14.

I got Misha's done in May and his 3 year was about $22 (don't remember exactly, and it's with him, not me). I tend to live in a more expensive area, too. The office visit, since he got his exam, was about $40, could that be contributing to it?

Are you serious? I'm getting ripped! I'm going to do some more shopping. Tootsie loves any vet, so thats no problem.

We charge 15 for 1 year, 30 for 3 year. Plus your county tag (20 in my area) fecal is 15.

They are labelled different but ARE the same vaccine -- you might want to check some of Kris Christine's Rabies Challenge Study links -- Dr. Schultz is pretty darned outspoken about that.

IF $54 covers the shot, AND an exam AND the tag/license (some places still do that *sigh* -- they don't here in Florida) then it's not high.    Depends on how much an exam is.

If it's a fecal float AND smear that's not terrible -- you catch things on the smear you don't on the float.

Lepto is the shot (or even the one component of the 'combo';) that gives the most serious side effects/problems.  I never have given it and wouldn't.

Distemper and parvo -- I get my three titered for it every year.  Last year Tink and Luna got the 3 "core" vaccines (distemper, parvo, adenovirus) that are modified live shots -- and they'll now be good for probably 10 years altho I *will* titer ever year.

Rabies you gotta do by State law only most states have now gone to the 3 year shot.

And I, too, keep my dogs records in my car ... just cos that's where I typically wind up needing them.

Just this past week I  paid $16 for a 3 yr. rabies shot and $19 for a fecal for my cairn.  Obviously some areas are more expensive.  You might check to see if your city or area shelters offer low cost vacs.  They do here.

Its a total of $57, which includes the exam and shot.
