    Red feet?? Yeast?

Bugsy's feet are very red - in between his toes and in between the pads

he hasn't been sucking or chewing them so i am guessing they aren't itchy

I started wiping them with rubbing alcohol and something comes off that is the same burgundy red color

I am guessing it is yeast build-up, if so suggestions on how to clear it?

    Thanks

No chance it could be environmental?  dried mud or something from a puddle?

red typically means blood -- yeast SMELLS like yeast usually.

I'd probably use witch hazel rather than alcohol (that's gonna sting) --

A couple of thots -- you could do one of these or a couple - which ever is easy for you:

    1.  do you have an aloe plant??  That will dry the skin a bit (yeast thrives where it is moist) and will reduce any inflammation (do you know how to harvest the goo out of the leaves?)

    2.  do you have any chamomile?  (as in tea?) -- brew it strong and let it cool -- it's an anti-inflammatory and will reduce redness.  it's also mildly antiseptic.  If you have any tea tree oil, add 5-10 drops and shake it up, and swish his feet in it and dry with an old washcloth.  Tea tree will kill yeast (and yet in that small an amount diluted in other liquid it won't make him sick).

You can get tea tree at Wal-Mart -- it's on the aisle with the herbals usually on the BOTTOM shelf all the way at the end of the aisle)

    or

    3.  Selsun Blue (with the red cap) absolutely ROCKS for yeast -- dilute a squirt of it in a couple of cups of water and massage it in well and then RINSE very very well -- that will also reduce redness and kill anyyeast that may be present.  Don't leave it on long tho -- it will tingle.  But it's very healing

no they have been like this for a while - I thought the ocean would clear it up but no change.  Then the other day I decided to try the rubbing alcohol and was surprised that the cotton ball became discolored by whatever it is

And it is all four feet

He shows no discomfort with the alcohol - if he does I will switch to witch hazel.  My thinking at this point is that the alcohol would be more drying

I've got tea tree and chamomile so will try that although likely not until Tuesday when I will have some peace in the house (house guests arriving today)

It doesn't smell yeasty - I know that smell from when he used to get yeasty ears

    Thanks
