3am Feora's 'water' broke. ER vet on phone says everything sounds good so far, so now we wait.

Good thing I got her pool a few hours ago!!

    Thanks guys

    Ok, so maybe not?

If you don't have a pup yet you may want to check with the vet by phone.  But you're a whole lot more prepared than you were yesterday!!  Good thots and prayers for sure!!

Not to disagree with a vet, but, this doesn't jive with my experience.  The "water" doesn't break with a dog like it does with a woman.  Each pup is in its own individual sack and it's unusual for those to break more than minutes before the pup is expelled.

I'm thinking that one of two things may have happened here.....one, the pressure on her bladder caused some urine leakage or, maybe a pup is stuck in the birth canal and it's sack did rupture, in which case the pup is very likely in serious distress.

I think this merits at the very least a call to the vet, although I'd vote for a visit.

Or she could have simply lost her mucus plug which means birth could be imminent or even. a day or two away. It'd be REALLY hard to miss a puppy in the canal..her perinium would be bulging, and she'd be contracting instinctively. You'd also be able to put your finger up there and feel a nose or feet...so I dunno? It's tough for a sac to rupture wihtout noticeable contracting, and before it breached the pelvis I would think..without some sort of trauma.

To the OP, Have you been taking temps and if so what have they been? You really should be doing this to keep an idea of the "when". Is she doing ANY of the behaviors I told you about? I mean wetness alone doesn't mean a whole lot in the absence of other information...

Birthing is a process...and once signs are shown (those I told you to watch for) you could be waiting up to 12-24 HOURS...for the first contractions to begin.

    Hope all is well.

This is exciting. And scary. I'm not sure what you saw but if nothing has happened by now whatever it was, wasn't a serious clue. (I'm thinking pee, like someone said above.) I know you heard this yesterday but don't let her out of your sight for a second and watch the doors if there are comings and goings. It's good to know you have a vet you can talk to on the phone, not everyone does. Keep us posted whenever you can. I know I'm not the only one who will be worrying about you today.

Can you describe what you saw when you say 'water broke'? Could she have had an accident ad could it be urine, there is a lot of pressure on the bladder at this point.

Thinking about her today and hoping the pups are ok!

Has anyone heard anything about Feora?  I've been thinking about her and Steph.

Did anyone hear anything in PM?  or have I missed something?

OK. For anyone else wondering. I thought I remebered her saying she had a facebook page. Check it out if you want pics! Feora's puppies

Okay, 10 is the magic number, 5 girls and 5 boys.. it took myself and my husband and my 5 yr old all working hard to keep things on track. Feora was putting them out so fast. There were a few scares, but in the end everyone is healthy. We just got back from the vet and each baby has a clean bill of health.

Thanks, Denise. :)  I've been wondering too about this dog and her family.
