    After spaying question...

Zoe Bug got spayed on Wed, she's doing great, her stitches look great. I've been keeping it low key, she's pretty much in her ex pen right now - because she's a VERY active dog. the whole 'no running & jumping' thing is almost impossible with her. So anyways what CAN i do with her right now?? Or do I have to wait longer for her to heal? Can I take her on a walk?

I'm having a hard time cuz just hanging around the house she runs & jumps.

I knew this was going to be alot for her since she's so active.

I was told just slow leash walks and definately no jumping or stairs.  But, Willow was older.

I think it's driving both her & ME insane LOL.

She's a jumpy dog, i just don't want her to rip her stitches. I guess we're just gonna have to play it low key for awhile until she heals up better.

*looks around*...a little benedryl won't kill her, if she can't behave :) WalMart sells Hylands Calms too, towards the bottom of the shelves usually.

Benedryl is a good idea. Did the vet send home any med for her? Sometimes the medicine will make the dog feel so good that they don't realize they just had surgery. It's good to keep her on those to prevent infection and reduce pain but I've known dogs who think they can walk on water after surgery because they feel better then they ever did before.

I know it's hard and you don't want anything bad to happen but just keep the incision clean and maybe crating would be a good idea to keep her from jumping and driving you crazy. It sometimes helps to put a blanket over the crate to give the den feel to it and then a towel wrapped around warm water bottle to help her relax. Dog heal so quickly so it may only be a week or two of doing this before she can go back to normal play.

so it's been exactly one week since Zoey's spay. Yes they did give her pain meds ( 3 days worth) and they gave me sedatives, I've been spacing them out though!! lol I think i have 3 or 4 left, I was just giving her one a day rather than the 2-3 day like they wrote on the package. I don't want her too doped up. But man you can tell when that stuff wears off!! She's so crazy.

So this weekend she got upgraded to being on the zip line when I'm outside - so for 5-10 min she can walk back & forth on a 4' leach attached to a 15' line. that seems to help her energy level, but for the rest of the day she's either in a crate, and xpen or at work in the office with me ( she usually just chills out and relaxes @ work). I got her a tug a jug yesterday, I swear she played with that for it least 2 hours yesterday, it was awesome!

So she's still wearing her cone, can I take it off yet? She looks pretty healed, but I don't want to take it off too early. My BF was trying to get me to take it off the 2nd day! GAH!!

I can tell this 'no play, no run, no jump' is driving her insane!! She's getting really good @ wearing her cone though, if she gets stuck on something she just motors on through lol.

so here's Zoe Bug's stitches they're barely there now

    what do you guys think?

I would think its okay to lose the cone.

     That incision looks fantastic!!!

    I'd take the cone off.

The incision looks great!  Nice job on keeping it clean and helping it heal.  Definately ok to remove the cone.  Do some OB work with her; work on focus (Watch Me); start walking again.  She's on the downhill slide, for sure.

soo I took off the cone, she's doing great, I'm still *trying* to keep stuff low key. It's really hard with her!!

anyways, so the cone somehow ended up IN the crate with her. i think it got scooped up with a blanket on accident, any who, she showed that cone how she felt about it and chewed off all the little tabs so it's completely non functional anymore. well for now, little does she know Mom will figure out a way to resurrect it if need be!
