What to do for cut inside mouth??

So Saturday morning, Kali and I are at training class and I notice her drooling. I've never EVER seen her drool before. I wrote it off thinking the string cheese was making her drool. Then DS noticed she had swelling on the left side of her face, lymph nodes perhaps?

I looked for a wound, on the outside, but found nothing. Between 9am and 11am the swelling actually got worse. So I got her into the vet. The vet looked her over but didn't want to aspirate the swelling just yet. He couldn't tell me what caused the swelling or even what he thought the problem was.

They gave Kali a shot to reduce the swelling and antibiotics. After we got home, I started thinking. The vet mentioned, its rare, but something with the salivary ducts could be the problem. I opened her mouth and peered inside. I really, really, really wish I had done this before!!

There's a long cut inside her mouth, on the lower left side, almost exactly right where cheek meets gum. It's easily an inch and a half long cut. She's on antibiotics but is there more I can do to help her?? It's not like I can get her to gargle with salt water to keep that cut clean or anything...

I have no advice on how to help the cut heal.  Hopefully it will heal quickly and without complications.  Sending good vibes for Kali.

I think as long as she's on antibiotics, she should be fine.  Cuts in the mouth usually heal really quickly without much intervention.

If you want to make her more comfortable -- get one of those kids medicine syringes.

Make some chamomile tea -- just plain (no flavors) -- make it with boiling water and let it steep til cold.  Dump the herbs in her food (they are tasty) and then fill the syringe and literally just squirt it slowly over the cut a few times a day.  It's a small anti-inflammatory but very soothing and will also help keep the gut settled.

I would call the vet back and ask him/her. He might want to look at it and my vet wouldn't charge me for an office visit, because it's something they should have caught.

Also, when Pirate had an abscess in his mouth, the vet gave us an antibacterial mouthwash to flush his mouth out with. You just use a big syringe and go OUTside, LOL.

The swelling is much better today. It's a small lump vs the huge whole side of the face swollen it was on Saturday.

I called and they don't want to see her nor do they feel she needs anything besides the antibiotics.

I will make sure to do her follow up with one of the other vets. I keep forgetting, out of the 4 doctors, only 2 aren't nervous with Kali...
