Is this a wart or something worse?

Hi there, I noticed tonight my dog Margaret has a long bit of skin coming from her muzzle, As far as I know its not a tick Ive seen them before and its not like this, I am worried as I have no clue if its just a bit of skin or something else and being a Sunday night my vets are closed, with this not being a real emergency to ring the emergency vet I hoped in the mean time someone may have seen something like it before? Many thanks. I must add that I live in the UK so I dont know if we have all the bugs in USA so wanted to mention where I am Embarrassed

If you can't just pick it up and pull on it then it's not a tick.  I would think you can safely go to the vet tomorrow.  But it's good to notice it right away.

If you pull up to feel "under" it (under that skin) does it seem like the bump is in the skin or do you feel something underneath "rooted" to the flesh underneath?

by the way -- welcome!!  (My husband is from near Dundee originally so I'm waving hello from the US)

Thank you so much for your reply I appreciate it, well I feel awful as I made it bleed :( I tried to pull on it gently and it wont budge its well apart of her, and then it blead a little in the middle so I bathed it and I am leaving it well alone Embarrassed she had ticks last summer grrr and this is nothing like them, I felt on the inside lip and around and there isnt any lumps, though where the whiskers come out around the area it looks a little red but that maybe my fault, I rang a 24 hour vet advice line yet of course they cant say without looking 0_0

My Maggie has something similar on her foot - the vet says it's a benign cyst and I'm just to keep an eye on it to make sure it isn't growing.

If it's got hair growing out of it then it is NOT a tick.  A tick starts off small - but then once they embed they begin to suck blood -- and they get about the size of the end of your thumb before they fall off engorged (they are sooooo gross).

A tick only has to be on up to 10 hours before it embeds and starts to feed -- it could NOT be on the dog long enough for a hair to grow.
