For those who've had dogs break foot bones.....

what did your vet do? Sage hurt her foot sometime Wednesday. Wasn't sure how bad so the plan was to watch her. She would limp when walking, put some weight on it standing but preferred to hold it up. She's got the cutest little hop/run that she does to keep from putting pressure on it but still get around. Most of Wednesday, she put herself in timeout and didn't play. Thursday she seemed better, but Friday the swelling appeared just on that inside toe of her front left foot. Took her into the vet today as they were swamped yesterday, and as feared - it's broke.

Vet said 22 of 24 hour crate rest for the next 3-4 weeks. He didn't splint it which has me worried. I know when humans break a toe they don't  usually do anything, but Sage is a 10 week old Min Pin puppy. Quiet ain't going to happen no matter what I do. Frankly, I'm worried about more damage. Forget now that she is the best show potential puppy of the 3, I  just don't want her lame for life. With her feet being so tiny, I don't know that even an ortho vet could do anything, but am seriously considering one asap.

Was hoping to hear from some of you that might have dealt with dogs breaking toes and how they did/what the vet did. They are puppies and life happens, but this just sucks!

Bevo has broke two toes, at different times.  One was an inside toe of a front foot.  The other was an outside toe of the same foot.  We confined him & he healed without issue.

Shooter broke one of the middle toes on a front foot.  He was knocked out so that they could realign the bones, & then he was splinted & confined so that it could heal.  The way that it was explained to me, is that the middle toes are the weight bearing toes so they have to be splinted.  The outer toes don't bear much weight so they can heal without support.

Apollo broke his rear, outer toe about a year ago. Our vet just said lots of crate rest, no playing/running/jumping, for 4 weeks. He healed perfectly, no issues.
