Ok - even one regular strength Tylenol can cause kidney failure in a smaller dog. This doesn't sound like that, but that's just an example.
Xylitol can kill -- to be honest I don't even chew gum with xylitol in it for that very reason.
Chocolate -- can really wreck them. Not only can it make them nauseus and absolutely insane, it trashes the liver big time. (Literally in the body chocolate is converted to a substance VERY like cocaine in their body.)
I've got a huge hunch here based on prior experience ----
I'm going to say blockage. DON'T LET THEM KID YOU -- an x-ray does NOT rule out a blockage. NOT AT ALL. Because fibers (like cotton fiber or paper fiber) do NOT show on an xray.
I had a friend with a little old poodle come up with symptoms very very like this. They thot pancreatitis at first (because of the intense inflammation of the stomach/intestinal tract goes along with it -- and heinous diarreha and vomiting). -- They were over a week trying to figure it out and finally they had an ***ultrasound*** done and THERE IT WAS.
Someone had stored a hammock on a porch he had access too. This dog was *not* a chewer so it wasn't something she expected. But apparently before that hammock was "stored" someone had spilled food on it and Cedar chewed it. He ingested enough cotton fiber to obstruct himself and it was NOT seen on an x-ray.
The fact that he ate grass for half an hour tells me he was TRYING to make himself throw up.
Honestly? I would tell them to cut to the chase and have an ultrasound done. Now depending on equipment it might be way cheaper for you to go to a vet school. But don't let this go on and on because it's debilitating. If he throws up EVERY thing he eats and he drank an entire bowlfull of water and was STILL DEHYDRATED?
That says *****BLOCKAGE**** to me in big huge blinking letters. And an x-ray can *not* rule that out.
My friends couldn't believe Cedar was blocked -- it was a dog who never chewed nuffing -- BUT once they did surgery (and see an ultrasound tells you **RIGHT THERE** is where it is) and she saw the fibers in her hand she said "THAT'S THE HAMMOCK".
They nearly lost Cedar because they spent too long trying to reduce the inflammation with the object still in there. But I learned my lesson -- there are TONS of things that won't show on an x-ray. And a dog that drank an entire bowl of water and then was still dehydrated? Nothing is getting thru the body.
edited because I can't spell this morning.
