    Jewel's news

Today, Jewel had bloodwork done, and it was awesome. She had a dental, and was spayed, and had two small tumors removed. Her vet said not to waste my money on the lab, unless I wanted to employ an oncologist for her. They are not lipomas, or cysts, but he got them all, as far as anybody can tell. He says it's fairly likely that she'll start to get more. She was intact for far too long, and she's an IG.

So, the current plan is to feed her lots of good food, lots of good supplements, and give her lots of love. If anything else comes up, we'll deal with it.

Awsome, is right on!  Very good news and very good plan!

That's good news on the blood work!  Glad her spay and dental went well.  Does that mean the lumps are cancerous?

    • Gold Top Dog

Yes, they are. This may have solved it, and it may have not. Time will tell. Cancer treatments are pretty out of the question, unfortunately, but it is early enough that she could just as easily be fine.

Understood, I'm dense sometimes. lol  She's a lucky girl to have found her way to you. :)

Are they mast cell?  Man, I wish you could get to a TCVM vet -- SO often they can pretty well control mast cell with just Chinese herbs -- blood movers.  It's not something she'd have to be seen a lot for.  Can I suggest again contacting Barbara at the Chi Institute and find out if they are going to have a session on cancer any time soon? http://www.tcvm.com -- if you can get into a teaching session with Jewel as the exam dog they'll do an AWESOME exam for free and you get a month's free herbs.  (and Callie would take the day off work just to meet you up there and GO with you!!!!  YES I WOULD!!!)

I'm glad the spay and dental went well, and the news about the bloodwork is great!!!

Great news on the labs and the dental - so sorry to hear about the tumors. I send my best vibes that they got all of it!

I just emailed her, Callie. I want to give Jewel the best chance at a happy, comfortable life as I can, but I do not want to subject her to a lot of poking and prodding, since it does seem to upset her so much. Dr Nunn does have a boarding facility, and grooming, right next to his office, so she saw the kennel of dogs and just about lost it, then she had to get touched by strangers and all of that. It was very hard, for her.

Callie, there's no cancer  sessions, BUT, next weekend, they have a tui-na class that she can participate in. I've gotta find a riding buddy, but I'm almost certainly bringing her. She said it takes 2 hours, and includes accupuncture, herbs, and teaching me how to massage her. She might just like that:)

OH MY LAWD I AM SO JEALOUS. I want to go soooo bad. I don't even know what tui-na is. Do you know who you're seeing?? Next weekend like the 7th-8th, or 14th-15th?

When you go, Jennie, bring Jewel's own blankie. Dr. Xie was really glad that I brought Pirate's from home. Also, eat BEFORE you get to Reddick. There is a Wendy's, and a BBQ place. And that's IT, lol. It's kind of in the middle of no-wheres-ville.

I have no clue, anything. I just have to hit up my friend, in the morning, to go with meBig Smile It's the 14-15. THIS weekend, I'm taking a big trip, for her, so it should work out fine, LOL. This is only a 3 hour drive, really. Shouldn't be too tough. Jewel rides great (and dang it, does everything else pretty  great, poor dog). I'm excited! Once I hear that I have a riding buddy, I'll fix our spot.

Jewel says to tell you all that the Chi Institute ROCKS!!! If you ever have the opportunity to go there, do! Tui-na is a form of massage, which had her moaning and groaning, and thumping her leg. One of the students has a Whippet, at home, in Canada, and Jewel adored her. She became a social butterfly, there (wearing her butterfly collar, no less), and really benefitted from the environment, alone. I'm glad we went, and glad especially that it was Jewel. The peaceful, laid back setting was awesome for her.

Jennie, that sounds wonderful. I'm so happy that she enjoyed her treatment and that the whole experience was so positive for Jewel. :)
