I am wondering if I should take her tomorrow to my regular Vet for treatment or just go back down to the ASPCA and go postal on them.

If possible I would take her ASAP to the ASPCA and give the head guy a piece of my mind, but I know she can't be away from the pups for too long.  I would not let them do any procedures on her if I was not present.  That could just get you a cover-up. 

Alternatively, you could take her to your regular vet for care (do you really want to wait until tomorrow?) and then take pictures, the fur, and your vet's report to the ASPCA.  You can get cheap video cameras to film whatever your vet has to do.

On a happier note, how many pups did she have?  How are they doing?

     She actually seems to be doing very well! Does not appear to be in pain & is eating well, wanting to go on the leash. She hasn't been bothering the incision either, which is at least one good thing in this mess.

     I agree with you - I definitely do not want anyone from Bergh Memorial touching her again! No way, no how!!! Not only do I not trust them to care for her properly but I honestly wouldn't be surprised at this point if I took her there for treatment and they somehow tried to cover up what they'd done. I'd be afraid they would consider sacrificing one dog to keep themselves out of trouble. Someone brought up a good point - what IF she'd died in those two hours they let her lay there with a puppy stuck? I think I mentioned she was having labored breathing and was goign in/out of consciousness in the whelping box. So it's not a huge stretch to imagine that she could have just given up and died under their care. Very, very scary. I did want to take her down there to raise Hell when they had other clients in the waiting room tho. I want them to see firsthand what they did to her. But yeah, my regular Vet will be the one to clean up their mess. I don't have the hair I pulled out last night, but will have to tell them to save any further hair they pull out and just take pics along the way ...

ETA: She had four pups - a big FAT 12 oz poopie (lol) was the one clogging the birth canal! I have never seen a newborn pup so HUGE! Poor guy has a birthmark on his "pickle" from where they must have pulled him out lol The miracle was that all four pups were alive, even fattie stuck in the birth canal all those hours!

Have you sent this nice little piece to the local paper?  I would be extraordinarily furious in your shoes.... in fact I AM furious and its not even my dog.  I am so sorry for what your poor dog went through

I'm glad to hear all the puppies made it. And that is one big little bugger! Lol. Of course we'll need pictures.  

I would write complaint letters to everyone who you can find. ASPCA, local newspapers, local TV stations, Animal Planet, anyone and everyone.  Someone is bound to listen.  Sorry for the trouble.  Glad your gal is OK and especially the pups too.

Good lord, that is one huge puppy! Poor mama! I hope she is feeling better soon and that your vet is able to help her heal from all the damage the first vet did.
 

I missed this HL...I am so sorry...so SO sorry! I have NEVER had either of my bitches LOOK LIKE THAT post section that incision is HUGE....and unnecessary. My girls has SMALL incisions...he worked in that space beautifully...I watched him do it!

SUE THEIR BEHINDS OFF is what I say...for her value as a brood and her projected litter value based upon average pups per litter and price per SHOW pup.

Actually, I would use Janet's cool-headed advice, and handle it the way she suggested - you want to make sure that the proper channels find out about your dissatisfaction, and prevent another dog from having a similar experience.  There certainly should be other emergency veterinary clinics in the area that are used to dealing with reputable breeders who encounter problems.  Maybe time to call a few breed clubs (I bet the toy dog breeders know where to go)  and find out who other breeders in your area are using.  If you can't be certain that a future whelping bitch can't be assured of help, then it might be better to spay them all than to have dog suffer or lose its life, God forbid.

     Sorry I've been so late with an update - we had a death in the family on Wednesday, so I've just been back and forth between the wake, the funeral and the Vet ... It has NOT been fun here this week :(

     Bailey is doing GREAT!!! We took her to my regular Vet on Thursday, who also is involved in showing (Am Bulldogs) and breeding (he co breeds GSDs with his mother). So he's much more understanding of breeders and is not a stranger to c-sections, etc. We were actually planning on taking Bailey there for her c-sec ... he does them but couldn't that day as there were no Vet techs available that day. Anyway, he removed the remaining staples, and there was some bleeding between the mammary glands, but not too bad. One thing I have to say is while there was shaved hair underneath the staples, it wasn't nearly as much as I thought, just intertwined in the staples themselves and the skin looked pretty clear. However, to make sure, he did have to open her up slightly (the mark he left was less than 1/2", and he did clean her out but didn't find any stray hairs, thank God! THAT was what I was most worried about in this whole mess. He re sewed her in a few places, mainly between the mammaries where it was just splitting open - and he was calling this a messy, poor job. But I have a feeling he was not too thrilled about speaking ill of another Vet, especially the ASPCA Vets. He was trying to prevent me from taking any action against them by mentioning it was something that was sloppy, but easily fixed. That's not really the point. I'm thrilled it was a simple fix, but the dog still looks like the Bride of Frankenstein :( I will have to take some updated pics & post them later today - It's still raw and she's full of scabs from the staples and along the incision line. But he gave me a topical cream that has been helping her tremendously! 

     I'm just glad the dog is finally fixed up. Just that has been a huge relief, one less worry. Her poopies are FAT, healthy and walking around already, so that's the main thing. But this was unnecessary. They put me and bailey through needless problems. They didn't need to back me up into a wall like that, having me sitting their like an idiot, waiting for damn near 2 hrs, thinking this dog was getting the x-ray and Oxy shot they promised they'd do, when all the while they had her rotting in the back with the pup still lodged inside her. I don't think they gave her ANY treatment during that time. That was valuable time in which I could have been arranging to take her somewhere else. She was such a natural show dog, and I am embarassed to say it but she has more gameness than some of my field bred hounds. She was a very valuable hound, and NOT in monetary terms. Just for that alone, I am angry. But then their hack job on herjust sent me over the edge   We are going to pursue something and continue to smear her pics all over the internet & tell anyone who'll listen ...

This was the nice show dog whose career they completely ruined (yes, I'm still fuming over that)  :(

     Lindsay - oh WOW! That scar looks like it's less than half the size of the incision they made on Bailey! I've never had a bitch need a c-sec before, and in the back of my mind I'm thinking this looks huge ... but what do I know? Geez, they really did butcher this poor dog so badly She's still scabbed up pretty badly & the skin on the top, just underneath the ribs still looke like it was "folded". There was nothing my Vet could do to fix that ... UGH. Do I feel like kicking their @$$es.

  I'm late seeing this. I'm so very,very sorry HoundMusic. I'm shocked to learn that their care is sooo poor; certainly not the image that's presented on the Animal Planet show. I'm glad the mom and pups are okay; perhaps one of the pups will have their mom's potential and can be used for breeding and showing. If a clinic ever treated my dog that way, I'd be livid too. I agree with Janet and Anne about taking this to the proper authorities; going back to the clinic and telling them off probably won't stop them from doing something like this again.

Report it to the AVMA, stat. That vet needs to be heavily fined and stripped of her license. That is beyond horrible and against every oath taken in veterinary medicine. 

 
Against their "mission"?? A veterinarians mission is to treat animals in pain, not push their own personal agenda!! That's a prime example of a vet sticking her own personal beliefs into patient care and in the process placing herself ahead of the patient's wellbeing. For goodness sakes! I'm as boiling mad as you...
