yelping

well, i took her to another vet and he couldn't find anything either. he said that as long as she's playing normally and eating fine he thinks she's just being 'dramatic'. i'm very mad at myself for not pushing for more tests. he must've been a smooth-talker because he convinced me to watch her for anymore changes or getting worse. i've been wondering if this behavior has to do with my recent separation from my fiance. we lived together and he moved out about 3 months ago.... when he's here, she acts more like herself but still yelps occasionally. this dog used to be completely insane with energry -- now she doesn't ever really jump on the couch or attack me with kisses anymore. if she does, she's very cautious about it. i'm going to see how she is today, but yesterday she didn't really play with my other dog very much (although i wasn't home for much of the day). she is acting as if she's been beaten. which, of course, NEVER happened. she is startling very easily, cowering when i go near her, tucking her tail more often, sometimes hiding from me. there is no way to localize her pain. yesterday i was laying on the floor w/ a pillow -- she walked by me and sniffed the pillow tag as she passed and i guess the tag moved unexpectedly so she yelped. so weird.....

Thanks for checking back in. I really don't think you will figure out what's wrong without X-rays. If you see my earlier post, did you see my list of some common times when Rascal yelps? It really sounds a lot like your dog, I really, really recommend asking for X-rays.

To the best of my knowledge, yelping is never a behavioral issue (as in, it's not caused by your separation), and it always a pain issue (as in, there's something physically wrong that is hurting her).

Of course she's acting like she's been beaten - when you beat a dog, the dog is in pain. Even though nobody is beating your dog, she's still in pain from whatever it is that's wrong with her. I HIGHLY recommend getting your vet to take full body x-rays.
