    Is this like a furminator?

http://www.jefferspet.com/ssc/product.asp?CID=0&mscssid=E6N6KQ65SDH18HWD1SVKMWPABCPH06C1&pf_id=0030278 It looks the exact same to me only 1/5 the price! What do you think?

I have a furminator and I think it looks more like the blade on a set of clippers.  A solid piece of sharp metal with little slices cut out of it.  That one looks a little more like a really fine comb.  But heck, for $9 it's worth it!  You might try finding a friend with one who will let you try it out.  I should get a commission from furminator for the number of people who bought one after I took mine to the dog park and loaned it around.  I mainly took it just so I could brush him there near the woods and not have to worry about dealing with all the fluff that comes out, but I drew a crowd!  Big Smile

I thought it might just be a fine-toothed comb, too, so I found a better picture. It looks a lot like a furminator blade to me. Also, the description says, "Removes loose hair and undercoat with the high quality metal blade." I'm going to go ahead and buy it. May as well at that price! I also found this: http://www.jefferspet.com/ssc/product.asp?CID=0&mscssid=PL4L2TA4H0XF9H1P3W2U8W79NX8C2D37&pf_id=0031995 which seems to be a furminator knock-off.

Oh yeah!  With the close up, that definitely looks like the furminator blade!  Let us know how it works out!  Be careful if your dog has long hair.  I have a long coated BC (Indie) and it really didn't work on him because it cut the long guard hairs so I just do lots and lots of combing and brushing with a pin brush.

Well, folks, I received this in the mail a while back and now that the pups are doing their spring moulting, I really have a chance to try it out. It works remarkably well! Here's a picture of my husband brushing Rakka:

That was about halfway through the grooming session, and yes, I groom my dogs on a regular basis. This was quite dramatic because she's currently shedding her undercoat.

Conclusion: anyone wanting to try the furminator who is intimidated by the price, try this $9 knockoff that looks the same and works just as well. It's the Bamboo Deshedding Tool.

Oh yeah, I also bought a cheapie undercoat rake that works extremely well, too. Not *quite* as well as this deshedding blade, but quite well nonetheless. It would probably be better for longcoated animals as there's no risk of cutting the topcoat. Might be a little easier to use, too.

$9 you say....I might have to try this next time Kenya blows her coat!

I think the combs and rakes work better for long-coated breeds.  I notice a big difference in my results for Woobie vs. Indie.  Woobie is more german shepherd like in his coat (although soft like a golden) and the furminator works great on him.  It butchers Indie and I've decided to methodically work my way through his undercoat with a rake, a fine comb, and then a flea comb.  Much better results so far and his top coat is remaining intact where the furminator just cut it short.  I wish I could power through him quickly like I can with Woobie and the cats, but he'd look a mess and his coat is just now back to a beautiful length and thickness and I'm not about to ruin it, so I'll just have to devote a weekend to cleaning out the undergrowth if you will and then he'll be gorgeous!  :)

Ya, I've decided that the Furminator, while it does a crazy great job on Crusher, does very little for Onyx.  Her outer coat is long and silky and the blade just doesn't go through it.
