Congrats. It depends. The first day or slow might be slow, especially by a vet's advice, in order not to rip out any stitches.
For Shadow, the surgery was nothing. Being at the vet's was traumatic. He expressed his glands near me when he was getting the sedation shot. 12-07-05. The vet keeps all surgeries overnight. We had an ice and snow storm overnight. Next day, I showed up in my cold suit (insulated overalls and jacket) and my american choppers watch cap. He didn't recognize me at first. Then I spoke my greeting and he perked up a little. He traded kisses and barks with the beagle in the next kennel. We got home and he slept most of the day and seemed morose. I think he thought we were going to leave him there forever. I cooked a steak for him that night and he knew he was home. The next day, we were back to walking, though not too far. By the end of the week, we were walking farther than we used to and playing all the time.
