What is Toxidia??

• What is Toxidia?? Mookies Mom Posted : 7/5/2006 9:44:32 AM Hi, Just got a call from the vet's office informing me according to a fecal sample, that Mookie has toxidia. Have tried to do an online search bit didn't come up with much info. Vet assistant said that since he goes to the dog park, that they'd treat it this time, but probably not in the future. HUH??? Anyway, info or a link to some info would be appreciated as I haven't had any luck finding any. • brookcove Posted : 7/5/2006 10:07:25 PM Puppers get coccidea really easily.  After that their immune systems usually take care of it, unless seriously compromised (kennel cough is a typical time for it to crop up again opportunistically). Giardia is a different story.  My dogs are exposed all the time to that one and are at extreme risk (waterfowl carry it and you can pick it up in pond water).  Both parasites are treated similiarly with metronidozole, usually - or more rarely with albendazole, which is what I use to worm all my dogs every month. 0 LIKE Like Share You have posted to a forum that requires a moderator to approve posts before they are publicly available. • Carla Mayhew Posted : 7/23/2006 1:22:28 PM Our dog also had coccidia when we first got him along with a bad case of kennel cough. It is treatable and just make sure you pick up his/her poop as soon as possible and dipose of it.
