Glucosamine/Chondroitin - Are all brands created equal?

I knew with 9 year old dogs that soon I'd be searching for assistance under this subject, and the time has come.

When Rudi gets up in the morning, he is fine, but he limps on and off during the day, and by evening, he's really bad.    I suspect arthritis, but his annual vet exam will tell the tale next month.

I started searching here to find the dosage for glucosamine (which I take for myself) and am pleased to see Callie's info on Knox.   I'm going to buy it today and begin Rudi AND Sophie on it.  (Sophie, I suspect, has a hip deformity from birth.    When she runs, she rocks.    And she has always "offered" her rear end for massages, although she doesn't seem to be in any distress yet.)

My question is on dosage.    I take glucosamine sulfate 750 mg.   Rudi & Sophie weigh about 70-75 lbs.     Is 750 mg too much for them?

I assume I can safely give them the glucosamine and the Knox simultaneously.    From what Callie said, it seems the one will be a temporary fix (good for Rudi this minute), and the other will be long-term.
So after the Knox kicks in (3 months from now), should I stop giving the glucosamine?

Rudi, Sophi, and I thank you.[:)]

I started Rudi on the Knox Nutra Joint tonight.   Found it for $14.67 at Wallmart.    89 days to go!
