Re: Vet Visit & Grandson's friend Mom killed

[sm=cry.gif]I posted today but the visit was yesterday ... I think...I am sooooooo tired I can't hardly think straight.. My grandson's girl friend's Mom was killed in front of her store by a drunk driver on Thursday..I am still not over the shock. She and her husband were just outside the restraunt having a smoke. Outside because of new smoking law and this guy came by in his truck..Get this..had no liscence ..it was supended for drunk driving. He knock out the traffic lights..took out a hydro pole, hit and pretty well demolished a car..then up over the curb and then hit both of her parent's. Her Mom killed(dragged a little ways under the truck), but her Dad was hit as well. He is in intensive care. Not good at all. And the daughter saw it all happen from inside the restraunt where she was waiting on a customer. Please pray for the Dad..Mac (nick name)real name is Ralph and for their daughter Kim as they are going through so much. And my gradson too as he is helping her go through this. I must go ..I am just to devestated by all this..Oh yeah. The driver tried to get away from his demolished truck but the police jumped him and dragged his to the ground. He just kept shouting..."shoot me, just shoot me". That would of been to good for him. His joy ride started from 5 or more blocks away where he'd hit another car...Again..this family needs prayers.

I have no doubt that the individual who did this is a sick, tormented person who, in a sober moment, would be as devastated as others must be at this horrible tragedy.  Alcoholism is not given the high treatment priority in this country that it should have.  It's been my experience working in community services, that some of the most severe alcoholics begin their drinking careers before they are even teenagers.  And, although long term inpatient treatment is known to work better, the courts repeatedly dump these people out on the street after about three days and simply tell them to go to AA, or another outpatient situation (the alcoholics and addicts refer to it as a "spin dry").  In many cases, because the disease of alcoholism is so strong, they never make it to get help, and they end up jailed or dead because of incidents like this that claim innocent lives.  It's a tragedy all around.  I hope that your grandson and his girlfriend eventually find some peace, and that her father survives and is physically healthy once again.

I'm so sorry to hear about this horrible news.  I've been in your grandson's shoes... I was the girlfriend almost 14 years ago helping my boyfriend (now my husband) when his mom was killed in a car accident.  His grandpa passed away two and a half weeks later.  Try to be strong for them... the shock wears off, the visitors leave and she'll still need all the support she can get. My prayers are with you all.
