    dakota's parent-
All I can say is I hope you have white carpets! What a good looking pup, but that sure is a lot of hair[:-] And I thought my boy was bad!!

Luckily we do have light-colored carpets.  I do brush Dakota at least 4 or 5 times a week, so that helps with all the fur being deposited inside.  However, outside is a different story.  There is white fur all over the place.  I even saw some stuck on our roof shingles today!!

That's true about the Furminator being better for some breeds/coat types.  I looked on an Eskie forum and a few other Eskie owners said that this product didn't work that well on their dogs, but that other dog breed owners had great success.

Maybe some other dog owners here will let us know what success they've had and with which type of dog coat.

I have heard that it works better for some breeds vs. others, but I also think it has to do with how the person does it.  I know some people at the vet I work for just don't do it right IMO (I know I'm anal about it, but still lol).  Could also be user error [:)]

hey... I"m too dang lazy to look it up again but can you use this stuff on cats ???  I have a tortie that sheds soooo bad. I've combed her out and gotten a FULL kitchen sized trashbag full of hair off her in ONE grooming session !! I've never seen so much hair on a cat !

Dillinger ( lab ) very rarely sheds anymore and he DOES have a double coat though. Sassie ( minpin ) doesn't really 'shed', she just leaves hairs wherever she's been...haha. Phoebe (JRT) doesn't really leave hair on anything but leaves it on YOU when you pick her up.  Andy, every time I touch him hair comes flying off him... EWWWWW. It's getting so I don't even like to pet him. I should send all of his hair to that woman that spins yarn out of doghair. She actually knits and sells clothes made out of it !!! lol

regarding the Furminator- you can also get it on ebay (there are lots of them for sale) and you can also buy it off QVC's website. They have different sizes, but I suggest getting the next smaller size (it basically is a less wider blade). Seems to make it easier to maneuver IMO.
For those who have not seen it, the "business end" of the Furminator looks like a #40 clipper blade attached to a handle.
You can use it on some cats, as my girlfriend (with the chow) also uses it on her indoor/outdoor cats - when she gets them to sit still for more than 30 seconds.

I just love this dog. She is so adorable. If I could get another one I'd adopt this purebred eskie that's in a shelter down in West Palm :(

I just wanted to mention that when you said that his coat has become dull, along with his shedding, that Ollie the black Great Dane turned dull after getting ill at the beginning of his allergies.   He was beautiful, and then got a stomach infection, and then started scratching and his beautiful shiny black, turned dull and almost reddish.    Now with his allergies under control, good food and supplements he is healthy as can be with shiny black fur!  He is ALWAYS shedding,,as is Bubblegum though!
