    • Puppy
what about a good whitening shampoo? any that really work?. my little poodle just had some old baby teeth extracted, and the gas from the twilight made her fur yellowish.

I feel really bad now. I think what I'm using is pretty cheap. 8 in 1 Premium Shed Control with omega 3 fatty acids. I really should buy better.

I usually use the products they have already prepared at the do it yourself dog washes.

When I actually buy one though my favorite is the Avoderm Avocado shampoo by Breeders choice.  I can buy it locally at Petco.

Human shampoos are NOT a good idea to use on a dog.

    Use only dog shampoo.

I use a whitening shampoo, but can't remember the name. I'll post it later.

Human and dog shampoos actually have the same Ph. I know this because I tested six shampoos. Three human and three dog.

I've used Pantene and Tressemme on my dogs for a few years now. They do a better job than any of the dog shampoos I've tried (and I've tried many).

Bunni's dog shampoo experiment amused me a lot, so I washed my hair in dog shampoo for a little bit. It didn't fall out or turn purple or green or anything. It was just fine[;)] I've used people shampoos and body washes on the dogs with equally un-scary results. Of course, they don't have any coat, but Bunni's dogs have coat, and they're still looking utterly adorable.

Jennie my test was actually scientific although really simple. I used pH sticks (like litmus paper) to actually test the pH level. There was a slight variation in both the human and dog shampoos but both kinds were in the same range of variation.

I know I'm an extremist but I need to know these things. There's another thing I want to know. How come when you use full strength shampoo it's always room temperature but when you use diluted shampoo it's colder? I may have to call Proctor & Gamble for this answer.

Hahahaha! I'd like to know that, too! I never thought about the full strength shampoo staying room temp.

I figure if it's good enough to use on both my children (ages 2 and 5) since birth, then it's good enough to use on my dogs....Vet says it's okay too!

Another Buddy Wash user here[:)]  Although I have on occasion used my own shampoo on the kiddos with no ill effects

I use baby shampoo also . No problems at  all. I think the most important thing is to rinse rinse rinse.

So far I've had the best results with Best Shot. It rinses out REALLY fast and has a great scent. The vitalizing mist spray (leave in conditioner) is awesome for eliminating static and combing out tangles. I'm going to try DVM Hylyt shampoo & conditioner when and/if it gets colder and drier this winter. Then for spring/summer I plan to use a Neem shampoo, conditioner, and spray for natural flea control.

I've tried various people shampoos and conditioners (including Pantene, Tresseme, and Suave Professionals) and I don't like how heavy and goopy they feel on the coat. They also take forever to rinse out and make Gingerbread itchy.

I use an emu oil shampoo.  I can't remember the brand but I love what it does for my dog's fur.  I have one dog with a difficult coat.  She does particularly well with the shampoo plus the conditioner.
