The shampoo review

The ingredients that you mentioned in the shampoo that you're using are great for exfoliating the skin. Almost a must for crusty skin cocker spaniels.
That#%92s great that it#%92s helping with their itchy skin. []
About the smell, you can always do a second wash with a professional oatmeal shampoo which is great for dogs with sensitive and itchy skin.
I always do a double shampoo on the dogs that I groom to make sure they're really clean......and rinse rinse rinse really good.

I was recently given 1/2 gallon of Professional Pet Products Tar-ific Skin Relief Shampoo. Why was it given to me? It stinks. I decided to try it, anyways.

Friday night, I washed my mom's dog, Toby in it. It looks and smells like poop. This stuff is tar, sulphur, salicylic acid, and coat conditioners. No perfume. No smell goods. Nothing. Toby has no major skin issues. He has flea dermatitis and some seasonal allergies, mostly cleared up by good food, but he's itchy. Washed him up in this stuff, and he seems very relieved. His coat is soft, and feels very nice. He doesn't smell awful, but you don't wanna spend your time sniffing him, either

Today, I washed Emma. She hasn't broken out in a horrible rash yet, so that's a good sign. Emma has major skin issues, including skin allergies and chronic demodex. I can't tell yet if she's less itchy, b/c bathing her, in itself, relieves her itching.

The good things about it are that it seems to work. It does relieve the itchies, and it rinses easily. It's pretty inexpensive ($6 for 12 oz).

The not so good things are that it stinks, and you have to use a good bit. You're also supposed to soak the dog for 3-5 minutes, but if you have an itchy dog, you're probably used to soaking it.

I'll use it again. It's inexpensive, and it works. The smell could probably be fixed by a lavendar rinse when they're done, which would also help their skin....

NO OATMEAL!!!

LOL My little JRT, Emma, has severe allergies. Oatmeal anything triggors major problems. Since I was trying the shampoo to see how it worked, by itself, they got washed in just that. Of course, I do two baths. Next time, they will either get washed in something that smells better, or they'll get a lavendar and tea tree rinse after they're cleaned and rinsed.

Well, Emma is my "special" doggy, LOL.  She's got major allergies. From what I've read, though, oatmeal isn't the best, even if they aren't allergic to it. The oats want to soak up moisture and can make dry skin worse.

Emma is one of a kind, LOL. I haven't met any dog as sensitive as she is. She's a genetic train wreck, but.... Allergies are common in JRT. They often don't do well with frequent washings, and hypoallergenic shampoos seem to do well on their coat. Anything that won't strip their oils too bad is good.

I use Solid Gold's Supersen Gelle ($12/16 oz locally, $10 online). I haven't read any reviews on it, but it smells good and I like their dog food, heh. It's supposed to be for sensitive skin, which I imagine puppies have. Between the food and the shampoo, Link has a shiny coat and always receives compliments on the softness of his fur.
