Excessive thirst and urination, constant hunger with weight loss - those are some symptoms. Google it and you'll get loads of information.
If you want to know right now, you can use a regular blood glucose monitor from the pharmacy to test his blood sugar. I have a diabetic cat and that is what I use. It is accurate. It doesn't hurt them. It does help save their life if they are diabetic and having insulin shots. Feline diabetes is different from humans and dogs (which are similar), but blood testing is blood testing. We use the cats ear. Put rice in a sock, heat in microwave, hold on ear till warm, then test away. You can also use their foot pad. I've heard of using the side of their lip, but the ears and feet are much easier. They sell a glucometer specially for pets, but the test strips are only available from a vet and much more expensive than those for a human glucometer.
Vet check up is in order though. Good luck!
